guns

Hey Ryan - Anyway, sorry for the delay. I went to the range this weekend and had a chance to compare and break in my Glock19 and my Kel-tec p3at. Survey says! No problems with either of them, the recoil from the kel-tec is a little nippy. There is no pain in shooting it what so ever but I found the tripper pull to be way too long (the only sort of safety that it offers), that changed my shot placement but could be worked on. I was actually very suprised that it was so easy to control and keep on point. I thought because the thing only weighs about 8 oz. that I was going to have trouble keeping it on target. Anyway, I don't have any regrets about getting that firearm, though I would really like the Colt Government .380 but they are way too expensive and the two that my father has are unfired (hence very collectable). Anyway, the Glock19 stole my heart as soon as I fired off a full 33 round magazine. I don't think there is any way to carry it in the summer, unless you're a big guy but any time you can wear an overshirt you'd be a-ok. The recoil was very minimal even with the gold-dot ammunition and it was easy to stay on target.. I could even switch up my stance and move while shooting and keep them fairly square. I am going to get to class but I will post more this evening.

I think that the biggest problem when carrying is printing. This is especially the case with the thickness of a double stack pistol. I usually IWB carry a Glock 29 10mm but when I am wearing a pair of shorts and t-shirt and notice it printing I tend to go to my Sig P239 .40 S&W (also IWB) which has a 7rnd single stack mag and as such prints much less.

That's Certainly True With Me, Zen

I don't know if it's my belt or what, but if I wear my KAHR P9 (small) in it's "Custom" Bianchi holster (hip) it sticks out like a sore thumb under a shirt..unless it's baggy, or I wear the tails out. So, I end up putting it in my front left pant's pocket..which is fine, but it's slow to get out if I needed it quickly.

The "Kangaroo" cloth/velcro underarm works ok, but again it's time consuming to reach. I have a break-away shirt my wife made but can't wear it all the time!

I wonder if an IWB holster would work better? I've yet to try that...any thoughts?

Thanks..Take Care

I think that IWB definitelty makes a big difference. For my Glock 29 I have a kydex C.T.A.C and for my Sig P239 I have a leather K&D Cochise holster. I am a rather large guy (seems like printing is worse on big guys) and most of the time I can get by wearing my Glock which is much thicker than your KAHR P9. I think that if you went IWB on your hip you wouldn't have any problem with printing.

1911 follow up

I forgot to talk about the Israeli Arms (IMI) 1911 clone that I have.. Personally I feel that 1911's are a little bulky but on the other hand they feel very solid. You have to look at the capacity (7) compared to something higher in a lower caliber. I like the hand feel of 1911's but it takes a little time to find one that fits just right. I ordered it before I had handled the gun, so I was lucky that it ended up working out and after a little problem with the factory mag (which is a common problem with this model) everything works perfectly. I do not like dealing with the recoil though I am sure it would not take that long to get used to compensating for it. I like to carry when I know I have enough ammunition for any given situation - so seven rounds isn't enough for me but if learned to be a better shot I guess it'd be plenty. You should go to the range and rent a few or borrow if you know someone in Maine. Good luck finding something you love.
