So I adopted a new child today an Inland M1 Carbine! This gun is in pristine condition and appears to be all original but I'm no expert so I can't say for sure. It came with six mags and 90 rounds of ammo! Final price $800!!

Like I said the gun is in immaculate condition inside and out there is no rust, pitting, hardly any wear at all on both the metal and wood. The rifling looks great and the trigger is nice and smooth. I can't wait to shoot it!

As always here are some pics:)

you lucky dog!!!!!!!

i would absolutlely love a carbine!!!

i looked at quite a few when i was in the south cmp store a few months back, but didnt see any as pretty as that one.

we were there picking up a couple of service grade springfield garands and if i had seen any carbines as nice as their garands looked that day i might have gotten a couple.

i would flip if i could buy carbines that nice, and would have done your same deal in a heartbeat.

those mags aint cheap either.

is that thing all correct?

if so, holy cow, you stole it!!!!

As far as I can tell it's all correct and I was told when I bought it that it was all original. The barrel is stamped 7/44.

Just to add my earlier statement above.

I'm not 100% sure that the rear sight is original. Also it doesn't have a bayonet lug on it but I'm not sure if that means anything or not. Also I haven't dated the serial number yet to see how it corresponds to the date on the barrel. Anyone have a link they can give that would help me date the serial number on this gun?

I'm no expert on these by any means so if you know a lot of about these guns then I would welcome any information you can give me.

Thanks

Post it on the CMP carbine forum...They will nail it down for you.
$800 is a good deal, but it is unlikely that it hasn't been restored...if true, you got a great deal.
The CMP carbines will not look that nice, particularly in the wood, but the Inland I got at North Store has 100% green GI park on the metal and an excellent bore. The wood has a few dings, but that shows honest use, to me, plus, it has the ordnance wheel stamp, a rebuild mark, and the "P" on the pistol grip. My stock was made by RockOla, and has the I-cut for the oiler.
Does your stock have any stamps? How about in the sling cut on the left side?

Okay, I noticed a few things that make me sure that your gun is not all matching. First it has a few very early features like the one hole upper handguard and the push button safety and no bayonet lug. Then it has 2 later features such as the round bolt and the rear sight. That said, your gun has a lot more early features then most cmp guns which makes it worth more to a collector than just a regular carbine. I think inlands were supposed to come with the bayonet band (I could be wrong). The stock is almost most definately refinished or replacement. I would love to have that gun.

Thanks for the info longdayjake:)

It doesn't really bother me if it's not all original I didn't buy it for it's collector value, I bought it because it was so dang pretty and I want to shoot it:D

Does your stock have any stamps?
The stock does have stamp on the right side of the buttstock. It says "UEF" and next to it is a Springfield logo.

Here's a pic of it. It's kind of hard to see so I adjusted the image as best I could to try and make it visible.

It does have the sling cut on the left side. Here's a pic I didn't post earlier that shows it.

the stamp is for underwood, elliot and fischer. formerly in hartford, ct. they also made carbines and supplied parts to other company for production. next to the "uef" is the ordinance stamp.

looks all G.I to me,arsenal upgraded or not.I would have paid that for such a nice one no problem.

Hey tell me what your settings were cause I got a D80 and i think the only difference is video recording so..

The D80 is a little different than the D90 in particular the sensor on a D80 is a CCD where the D90 has a CMOS. Also the D80 is 10.2mp whereas the D90 is 12.3mp.
Here's a good sight that lays out the differences pretty well.

All the same there's no reason why you can't get spectular photos out of your D80. Of course proper lighting helps a lot and having a good photo editing program like Photoshop is a great tool to be familiar with.

As far as my setting for these shots go I shot most of them using auto WB and then customizing it a bit. If I remember correctly most of the images were shot between f/16 and f22 at exposure times ranging from 15 to 30 seconds. I don't have much of a studio because that's not the kind of photography I do but I was using a Smith-Victor Softlight setup. I was using a Nikkor 18-105mm lens.
