I don't suppose anybody missed me, but I had a Davinci robotic prostatectomy to remove my cancerous prostate two weeks ago Monday. Recovery is slow, mainly because I'm 64, and I'm also diabetic.

The main reason I'm posting this is---to urge everybody to get yourself checked out. Have regular blood tests concentrating on the PSA count. And as unpleasant as it is, get the digital exam. IF you're over 50, or if you're having problems with urine flow.

My PSA has been on the increase for several years. When it hit 4.0, I was urged to talk to a urologist. He recommended a biopsy be done, that spotted a small tumor in the prostate, or T-2. I also had increasingly difficult urination. This was with the VA, who said wait, and loose weight so they could perform an open operation. After 9 months and loosing 25 pounds, they said loose still more.

I said phooey to them, went local with a private urology clinic. Since I have excellent BC & BS through my work, it was the best solution.

The good news is, the tumor had NOT moved outside of the prostate,(breached the margin), but had moved into the seminal vesicle, to bring the score up to T-3, or stage 3 cancer. But since both were removed, it's gone for good!:neener:

This probably isn't the right place for this type of thread, but this is the only place I post on this board. Mods, some tolerance please?;)

Glad to have you back, & glad to hear things are lookin up for you.

I have to go get the exam in a couple of weeks. :(

Glad you're back and have been cleared of your problems. Hope you're back to reloading and shooting soon. Good advice to watch for us older than 50 also.

Thanks guys, I actually rewarded myself with a new GP-100 blued 6 inch. NOT my first .357, so I already have plenty of brass and other components. I spent a few minutes back in the man cave, digging out brass and getting ready to load a few. Short on stamina though, had to go sit back down.

Now to bed to recharge for tomorrow.

Glad to hear things are going well snuffy.

Getting old ain't for sissies, and I am just getting started. I remember the old days when I could pee good, and see, and ........ :(

Could be worse, right. Good to be breathing and shooting. :)

Happy to hear it sounds like you will make a full recovery. We all could probably take care of ourselves a little better

Actually Snuffy I did notice that you hadn't said anything for a while. And I'm really glad thr cancer didn't break out and spread. Just take it easy for a while and you'll do ok. And any place that you can encourage people to get checked for cancer is the RIGHT place. I fought off leukemia and kidney cancer in my 60s and it isn't much fun.

I had missed your posts, didn't know why you were missing! Glad you're doing OK ... if you call what you went through doing OK!! Hope you get to feeling better and I look forward to your post as always!

Good luck on the recovery! I encourage everyone to get checked regularly, too. I didn't start seeing a dr regularly until I was a father. I discovered a problem straight away...hematuria (red blood cells in my urine). I've since had several tests done (one in particular that was slightly painful) all with negative results. I'm apparently one of very few people that has this issue with no apparent signs of trouble beyond the symptoms. All the same, I get tested very regularly. It never fails, with every physical I still have hematuria.

If you have a family and you go through all the steps to protect them physically (preparedness and responsible firearm ownership), you should also protect them by protecting yourself. A fat lot of good I'll do them if I keel over dead next week from something that could have been spotted and fixed with regular checkups.

Never really appreciate ones health until something goes haywire. Speedy recovery M.F. err My Friend!

I haven't had prostate problems....yet....just prostrate problems. My double bypass heart surgery 3 years ago did that. So I can relate to what you're going through. Thank goodness it gets better pretty darned fast.

My wife bought me a fancy Delta Jig Saw for my "get well fast so you can build the grand daughters, rocking chair/doll cradles for Christmas" present. Would have rather got what you got... Now that the Christmas presents are distant history....Maybe I could sell the jig saw and get something more selfish!:D....on second thought, that wouldn't make points with the gift giver. Not to mention that I have another grand daughter coming to that age.

Get better....and watch the heart too....that can give you a really bad year.

Thanks everybody for the warm and fuzzy feeling. It makes a big difference in my outlook, was feeling a bit depressed. You've fixed that!

I headed out to go pick up the GP-100 yesterday, when I started the car, strange noises greeted me. A look at the serpentine belt showed a frayed belt rubbing over what WAS/USED TO BE the tensioner pulley. Did ya know you have to take the motor mount off the front of the engine to replace it? The bearing had worn, got hot, so the plastic pulley disintegrated.

Thanks to my great nephew, it's fixed, now to go get my new toy!

GW, I do have a stent in my LAD. The sleepy doc said he would have to watch me a little closer than most.

Thanks sky, I know I have a challenge to get back on the horse what threw me!

JC, it's nice to be missed. I think:uhoh:

JimK, I was actually looking forward to the surgery. For the 5 weeks leading up to the surgery, I was forced to self catheterize to get empty of urine. That gets old in a hurry, doing it 4 times a day. At least I could get some sleep! The enlarged prostate along with the cancer, meant removal was the ONLY option.

qajaq, I agree a heads up is suitable on any forum. Thanks to the mods for letting this one go ahead.

Walkalong, you're right, any time spent this side of the sod is on the + side. Anything that doesn't kill ya, makes ya stronger!?

Well wake the sleepy doc up....I had 4 stents that they gave up on and had to bypass.

If you start getting tired too easy again, like difficulty climbing simple set of stairs....go see him.

Good to have you back and glad to here your surgery went well. I work for a bunch of urologists and they use the Davinci robot with excellent results.

Glad you are doing OK. I had an open Prostatectomy for the same reasons 3 years ago at 58 years old. I was and still am healthy as a horse so no complications. Only problem was 6 ream jobs for recurring scar tissue forming at the rejoin of the urethra to the bladder. Still testing out OK on the PSA after 3 years.
Four days after surgery I couldn't stand it anymore so I hobbled out to the shop and was doing some brass prep when my wife found me.
Get better soon Snuffy.

Snuffy - Glad you got thru that krap and are back on track. Also, this is the most accurate place to post your news in my opinion!

Good to hear from you, and glad you're doing better. Every day you wake up on this side of the grass is a good one.
