I'm Betting This Won't Be Covered in The Senate Investigation

Here’s a list of the governors whose states were hit by Katrina or will be hit by Rita. Notice anything “interesting” ? Judging by a certain data point, I expect Texas to handle the Rita aftermath better than did Louisiana, as did Florida, Alabama, and Missippi.

FL: Jeb Bush (R)
AL: Bob Riley (R)
TX: Rick Perry (R)
LA: Kathleen Blanco (D)
MS: Haley Barbour (R)

Careful, based on my saying:

The president's home state is going to get first class response time in a pinch?

somebody is claiming that says something about the depth of my character.

Ahhhhh, OK.... your post means:

democratic governor = broken levee and flooded city.

Took me while to get the "logic".

Good to know the mayor and governor are the scape goats in these cases..... I say we dig up the mayor of Galveston and the governor of Texas from 1900 since that flooding resulted in the largets loss of life in US history. Of course, back then they didn't know it was always a defective governor which was such an accurate predictor of the severity of such things.

I posted the article from the Mercury News in the first post with it's URL. The quotes I put up subsequently are from that article.

I am saying your source is taking snips of various documents out of context to slam the administration. They certainly made mistakes, but to just repeat "it was in the plan", when your source is wrong is meaningless.

There is plenty of room for criticisim and learning. For instance the article says:

But orders to move didn't reach key active military units until three days later.

If that is true, wouldn't the article be more helpful if it explained what the delay was instead of harping about how the administration blundered? Until I hear more details I will view the article as a cheap shot instead of useful information. So your pleas to address the issue are just another way of Bush bashing.

Katrina Timeline

Rightwing Nuthouse has put together an excellent timeline for the disaster using only local New Orleans resources. In his own words, he says..."IT IS NOT MY INTENTION TO PLAY THE BLAME GAME BY PUBLISHING THIS TIMELINE.. In fact, if you have a link to a story that contradicts or adds to this timeline, I urge you to send it along. My sole purpose is to place this timeline on the record to dispel the rumors, the spin, and the outright falsehoods being flung about by both right and left bloggers and pundits."

And he does a wonderful job.

My impressions...

I have more sympathy for the Mayor, Governor, and the Feds.

The storm for which they've been prepping the past 30 years was not the storm they got. I wonder if the Mayor and Governor did their best but they weren't of the quality of Giuliani and Pataki. I also think the government generally did it's job...but they didn't have much to work with early. The alternative is to give the government first-responder responsibilities country wide.

Writing from the edge of Rita.

What has happened in the last several days is, I think, conclusive evidence that when the local governments, city and state, are prepared, the result is drastically different than what happened in LA..

Even in LA, this time around, the results are much different. This has nothing to do with the evil or indolent nature of "Darth Bush", much to certain peoples chagrin.

Rather it shows that the critical factor in thesre events is the quality of the frontline troops, from the local and state governments.

Case closed.

Have a nice day. :neener:

You folks could save a lot of time by...

...using the following format and words,

BH: <Down with> BUSH
OTHERS: <Down with> BUSH NOT

Repeat as needed until something more interesting comes along.

As long as he did not send in troops to assume LE authority, he could have (on his own) sent in convoys of military trucks carrying aid as well as helicopter fleets for evacuation of the stranded.
Gee, that sounds an awful lot like what the National Guard should have been doing. If the Governor had had them ready to go into NO, that is. That one sentence pretty much invalidated your whole argument.

I sure am glad there weren't any trees, power poles and other debris blocking the roads, and that no bridges were damaged. Just think how easy the access was; no problems at all!

Sarcasm mode off.

This is ridicuous. I'm going to call this nothing more than politcal finger pointing because that's what it is. The one doing the finger pointing should be ashamed for typing a bunch of disingenious rhetoric.

Somehow our 82nd Airborne division sits around ready to give aid to hurricane victims. You cannot compare military units that work as a unit to stragling news crews. The last I remember our troops are trained to defeat enemies on the battlefield. The whiner talks as if a major logistical effort such as organized releif for hurricane victims from our military can be taken care of within hours of a disaster. First of all that is not their primary job. Anyone who thinks otherwise is really out of touch with reality or has no knowledge of military operations.

And somehow the whiners always forget the thousands that were rescued via helicopter within the first couple of days of the hurricane by our Coast Gaurd and military. How convenient.

The original poster who is one "bounty hunter" is using nothing more than the same old leftist regurgitated tactic of blame and rhetoric. He's not fooling anyone and he might as well post this at the democratic underground. I guess he gets more of a kick posting this at a conservative leaning gun discussion forum.

I'm not fooled by his propoganda one bit.

deep breaths, Dragun, deep breaths. heavy sigh *SIGH* obviously BH (Bush hater?) has been in these forums for a long time, with many many posts. not being here very long, i am not sure if a majority of them are like this or not, but i assume not. he must have made more than a few reasonable contributions without ticking off so many people. if they were to all go as this thread has, i would think he would have left a long time ago. i'm willing to give him the benifit of the doubt. what would have been cool, (in my little mind) is if when he posts such things as this, nobody would respond. there would just be the one post (his) and this thread would have gone the way of the dodo (no pun inteded). seems like he wanted to poke the hornets nest and it worked. got me pretty riled up, and that is not why i come here. he is pro 2A, i hope...

It is not the Federal Governments job, by law, to be a first responder. That falls the the state level.

This is true. And my point is, all forms of government failed to act in a timely manner after Katrina.
