I got my 646 out to the range for a 2nd time and I just love this gun. I really like the whole moon clip concept and the gun just RUNS. Accurate, comfy, and FUN! Now I want MORE moon clip fed revos. MUCH MORE.

But I don't want to give up my beloved autos either! Oh, woe is me. I need to sell off some of my remaining music gear, that will help. If my motorcycle were worth anything that might be an option but it's not. I already have too many toys on credit. Do I REALLY need a house??? Hmm, ya, where else would I keep my guns . . .

CDNN has the Taurus 455SH4 for only $300. I want to get my feet wet in .45 ACP anyway . . . I might be able to squeez that into the bugdet fairly soon.

Then there's the Taurus 905CHSS which would also slake my lust for a snubby without breaking the bank or my wrist.

More Smith's would be nice but I can buy both the above new for what a used 325PD goes for around here. Hmm . . .

What is the frame size and caliber on the 646? My wife fired an interesting .40 Smith with moon clips once and I'm trying to figure out what it was.

The 646 is an "L" frame S&W, chambered in the .40 S&W cartridge. The first run was a Performance Center special with a slab-sided barrel and "normal" underlug. For some reason I have heard more than a few negative comments about those. The last run was done to use up the existing frame/cylinders, and came with standard round barrel and full underlug, just like a 686. All the comments about these I have heard have been positive, and I definitely like mine. IDPA shooters like them too. Although not advertised as a Performance Center gun, they came in a PC case. I can't remember the exact number in the last run, but I believe it was around 900, for S&W stocking dealers only.

Mr Bob nailed it. I was thinking of either having the cylinder cut deeper to take 10mm or have a whole new cylinder made for it so I can use the more potent rounds and then get the C&S fixed rear sight and a fiber optic front.

But now I'm wondering if the Taurus 455 mentioned above might not be a better option. Sacrifice one round for a more potent round, lighter weight, and don't have to replace the sights. It's already a nearly ideal carry gun for what I think I want. Keep the 646 as a range gun.

Snowman - now you need a S&W 25-2 in .45 acp; for a range gun, it's perfection. For 10 mm, get a S&W 610 (but get the used 25-2 first).

I need LOTS of guns BB. My list (leaving off the NFA items I want) is currently at about 27 guns and $30,000. As new guns come out that list grows. I'm sorely tempted to sell off some of my beloved CZs for my new wheel gun fetish but I think I'll regret it. I do have a Taurus 669 that I could part with to put tward another moon clip gun . . . I wouldn't loose out on parting with my CZ 75B since I got it used. . . hmm. . .

I picked up one of those .45 taurus earlier this year,and while it isnt a Smith and Wesson its never let me down.No problems with it at all.Those "ribber grips" feel wierd but they really form well to your hand.

Thanks for the review. I have an old Taurus 669 that has served me well. It's being sacrificed to finance my new obession. A great gun, but I want new toys and I've already found a buyer. I have another friend who's interested in my CZ 75B. If I can move that I'll be able to afford the 455 without dipping into my regular budget and maybe even have money left over. Might even be enough for a 25 if I can find one. Plus if I ever want to shoot them again I know where they are

Well, I've settled on the 455HS4 as my next gun. It's rated for +P where as the 25 isn't (bolt cuts between cylinders helps). To me, that's worth giving up a shot and spending a couple hundrad dollars less and taking the chance on lower quality control.

Oh and SW, the largest room in the house will be deticated to firearms by the end of this winter

Your collection (what I've seen of it) seems to be a nice balance.
I have to admit, I've been steadly moving to revolvers. I enjoy great triggers soooo much, I keep picking up older (1981 and earlier) S&W revolvers. I really don't have any semi-autos on my "list" at the moment. However, when money gets a bit more plentiful, I expect I'll replace my Hi-Power and try to locate a nice 1911.

In the mean time, NOT picking up brass is a GOOD thing!!

If your Taurus 455 is anything like the one I had you'll be extremely happy. The one I had was totally awesome, the trigger pull rivaled any new Smith I have seen lately. My Dad fell in love with it so I gave it to him for his B-day. I miss it.

NO VONFATMAN - not the Hi Power - you'll regret it untill you get another one. I'm mostly a revolver kind of guy, but I do like the Power! And yes, I do have a 1911.

I swear those Pac grips are made for lefties like you VFM. They rubbed my trigger finger just the wrong way. They are nice guns though. I was looking for one for my 2nd bottom feeder after my Glock but ended up going CZ because they fit me better.

Now I'm off to revolverland in my quest for more pretty and theorheticly useful chunks of metal I'd also like to get that rifle built by summer . . . maybe if my tax refund is big enough. . . but that's been covered in other threads.
