Well, as some of you know a new law will be in effect in MD in just a few more days. Any gun manufactured after Jan 1 must have a built-in lock or it can't be sold in MD. I had wanted to pick up a couple more guns before this law took effect but I haven't had the money since last summer.

Well, my best friend wasn't really planning to be in the market but he decided to buy one because of the law. He was planning on a PPK so that he'd have something nice and something that he could simply drop in his pocket when investigating a noise or other HD situations where discretion was called for. I suggested he take a look at Kahr.

We went to a range where we could rent an MK 9 and I remembered all over again why I used to love Kahrs and desperately wanted one. My friend decided he had to have an MK 9 (personally I'd rather have a K9). He called every dealer in the state and found one that had one in stock and who could get two more from his distributer.

My buddy now has an MK9 with the Elite 98 trigger package on order to come in within a few days. He should have it in a week or two.

I'm jealous. I really hope a dealer still has a few of the more common K9s left (and I'll take a P9 or K or P40) in a few months when I'll be back in the gun market.

Maybe you can put one on lay away at your local dealer. I would think the prices will go up for you there in MD soon.

...or scope out the used market when you're ready to buy.

How hard is it to do out-of-state transfers in MD?

I'm surprised that any guns without internal locks are still available there!

Time's a wastin'...!

It looks like the new law will allow used guns to come in just fine. Then again MD is notorious for interpreting laws to mean something that is far from what they say so who knows.

Don't you think it's just time to move the hell to Virginia, Chaim?
Unfortunately, with the way I've decided to do the graduate school thing I'll probably be stuck here for a couple more years (I didn't like the idea of scoping out a new area, finding a place to live in a totally unfamiliar town, finding a job and getting settled in graduate school all at the same time). I hate being stuck here. :(

Maybe we should chip in

And buy Chaim a gun but the moment his grades fall below "stunning" take it away from him.......:D

Hey, great idea. I'm all for it. I have to keep my grades up anyway (3.5 minimum) since I'd like to have a chance at going on for a doctorate in a different, but related subject (school psychology, though due to time restraints, I'm 32 now, I'm more likely to take a masters in social work or maybe counseling- though either way I need good grades in my MA in Special Education).

chaim - weren't you planning on moving a few miles north to PA? Not sure what to expect with Rendell in office - we managed to keep a Republican House & Senate both, so we should keep him in check.

What happened to those plans?

Move to PRK

Chaim,

I could use another tax deduction: move-in with my wife and I in California...the gun laws here make MD look like England! We don't have that cold white stuff here either -- I think it's called snow?

:banghead:
