A shoulder holster for my 1851 Navy Sheriff (5 1/2 barrel).
The .44 caliber version.

Size 14 would seem to be the right one as it's basicly the same size as a 5 1/2" SAA.

Notice the Size 16 listed for the Uberti Navy also fits the 7 1/2" SAA and clones.

A 51 Navy should fit most holsters for the same barrel length SAA.

It's also showing the size 14 for the 5 1/2" Cimmaron 1872 Open Top... basicly the same size gun as the Navy.

May I 'hijack' this thread?

I'm looking for something in LEATHER and preferably oil-brown for my 5-1/2" Remington NMA. Already have Cabela's loss-leader open-top holster in 8" length for the long-barrelled Remington, and it works well with the addition of a leather thong to loop over the hammer spur; but I've moved it over to the "other side" of my very basic 2" belt and it's held in a 20* cant for crossdraw use. I used Chicago Screws to hold it in place; don't know of any experienced horseman that doesn't have a little baggie or two of those little harness repair wonders, unless they're still using leather shoelaces to hold their harness leather together.
It works much better for me to carry the long-barrel on the weak side for crossdraw... I don't have to pull my hand up into my armpit to clear the holster. (Okay, that's a minor exaggeration, but not TOO far off!)

Rather than buy another one and deal with the extra length -which makes it hard to sit down at the card table for a game of stud when I get conned into re-enacting- I'd like to find something in that same style but obviously a shorter length. (The occasional re-enacting is why I'm looking at leather)

The conundrum comes in when figuring out what fits and doesn't fit the Remmie's outsized frame. Presently, the 'short pistol' takes up residence in the Safariland 6" Duty Holster with which I carried my S&W 629 in competition; but it's a very tight fit and OBVIOUSLY NOT 'period correct'!

Oh, and here's the kicker.... I'm left-handed, which seems to stack the deck just a little bit more. :banghead:
Anybody have any ideas/solutions that don't require a triple-digit outlay?

Generally speaking, a holster that fits a Colt Single Action Army will be too large for any of the similar-but-smaller open-top models.

I am occasionally stumped when I can't find a rig that's designed like I want, for some less then usual model gun. Long ago I learned the solution was to find a Tandy Leather Store (check out www.tandyleatherfactory.com). You can buy everything you need to make your own belt and holsters, and save money in the process. Leather work is not difficult, and if you can't (or won't) hand sew you can lace the edge of the pouch.

Relating to card games: It is said that Tombstone City Marshal Virgil Earp made a practice of removing his long-barreled six-shooter from his waistband and laying it in his lap when he sat down to join a friendly(?) game of chance... :uhoh:

Heck, I have an Uncle mikes, bought for a 4" Security Six, fits my K frame, but also fits either my Remmy (very tight fit) or the Colt Navy (looser fit) 5.5" models. The thumb snap is adjustable over a wide range via velcro. It's not leather, but it works just fine. The gun rides butt forward, not vertical, but I think they have vertical models, too.
