I run a fledgling magazine and am looking for ladies to tell their experiences while open carrying - good and bad. I can put your name in the article, or leave you anon. Anyone willing to share?

I never saw a woman open carry. Besides when at the range. Guys yes i have saw a few. They usually have more on their belt than a LEO.
Me and their Grandpa took my twin 17 year old nieces to the range this weekend for their first time shooting. Our beloved old range shut down so we go to this "tactical" outdoor range because its the only other range within 100 miles that has a 1000 yard range.
From the first time checking in and watching all the Tactical Teds at the outdoor bays as we drove over to the 100 yard range the girls both commented that these guys looked like they were SWAT team wannabes. I don't know what these guys envision they look like in their own minds, but to the minds of two 17 year old high school seniors they look like morons.

We started the girls off with a 22LR adapter in my 24" bull barrel .223W and once they got used to the fit and feel of the rifle we switched them to 77 grain 5.56 and they both put 10 shot strings in a 3" circle at 50 yards. Similar results with the bolt action 6.5CR. They did almost as well at 100 yards with both rifles. They definitely outshot all the 18-25 year old mall ninja snipers out there by a wide margin, which the young men definitely noticed (with a fair amount of shame.)

Was a very good range session and I've promised the girls if they have a good senior year and continue shooting I'll build them each an AR of their choosing for their 18th birthday. At the end of the session one of the twins came over to me and asked why the young men all had to act like such idiots, with their constant cursing and obvious lying about their shooting exploits. I wish I had the answer to that one.

The girls hit the nail on the head. Good to hear you and the girls had a great shootin session too.
Yes, their Grandpa was exceedingly proud of them and had the best time I've seen him have at a range since he rung steel at 1000 yards for the first time.

A couple of the young guys came sniffing around making some comments about them shooting like girls until I showed them the girls' groupings. They stared, mumbled "good job" then went away. I was spotter for most of the day and was watching these guys shoot too, and they were lucky to hit the 36x48" cardboard in the silhouette at all. Of course most of them were shooting 7.5" AR pistols with red dots and had no idea where they were hitting because they forgot to bring binoculars or a spotting scope. Their behavior as a group was not unlike watching a group of monkeys doing you know what to a football.

Someone watching these six or seven 20-25 year old single guys for a couple of hours could come to the conclusion that the age to own firearms for single males should be 35.

I was proud of the girls and especially how they paid close attention to the safety rules their Grandpa explained to them and how they were not afraid to ask questions. Also, don't let anyone tell you female shooters aren't competitive like men. If my Dad (their Grandad) ever gets too old to go shooting, I think I might look for a female as my next shooting partner.

The girls already had their antennas out they noticed the boys. Of course, the boys picked up on the girls and like peacocks spread their tail feathers, unfortunately that also lets them expose their a**es, which allowed the girls immediately classify them.

As a past NRA Smallbore Coach and a 4-H Smallbore and Shotgun Coach, I've seen it many times.

Are you aware of the national open carry forum? www.opencarry.org
It has subforums for each state. Don't know how active it is now, but you might get more stories there. Unfortunately, this forum just doesn't have a lot of female members who are still active.

In any event, I've seen two women open-carrying in my county recently, one at a Fred Meyer store, the other, of course, at Wal-Mart. Both were with male partners, also OCing. OC is not uncommon in Washington (more common East of the Cascades or away from the Puget Sound area, though).

A nurse Practitioner who lives on adjoining rural land near a friend about 25 miles east of Collierville TN had an odd jogging concern. She jogs on their road which has relatively light traffic, but houses appear to be 200-400 yards apart. They are not always on both sides of the road.

A guy had stopped his truck a ways in front of her and with the hood raised he seemed only to be watching her, instead of "fixing" his truck. She had a strange feeling, and is not naiive at all.

From that day she began to Open carry a .380 handgun while jogging, and she never saw him or anything similar again. Their small road goes north from Hwy 72.

New York is not an open-carry state, but I recall a pawnshop near me that had a woman behind the counter who always had a holstered revolver on her belt. I guess it was OK due to being private property, not "public space." Anyway, she was pretty salty and had a right to be. They sold guns in there, and it wasn't the greatest neighborhood.

Thanks, Old Dog for the link... interesting if nothing else.

No guns till 35 for cursing and playing dress up?
I've posted pics online of a guy wearing all black tactical gear shooting a 45 in each hand. I could not stop laughing. Literally had tears in my eyes.
Not about to say he shouldn't be allowed to do whatever the (beep) he wants to.

I don't identify as a lady, and I don't know if this tiny anecdote would be of any use to your story, but just over a year ago (during the tail end of the pandemic lockdowns) I was at the Lansing, MI Sam's Club and while shopping I saw a young couple who had to be no more than in their mid 20's, with their 4-ish year old daughter, also shopping.

Both the husband and wife were openly carrying Glocks in OWB retention holsters (Serpa, perhaps, but I don't recall.) I smiled at them and went about my business, and from what I observed during the brief time they were in my sight none of the other shoppers either noticed or cared that they were open carrying. There were no double takes, no stares, no gasps, no grasping of pearls or fainting couch flops by Karens.

Just a young family out shopping, who happened to be open carrying pistols.

I don't necessarily agree with open carry in public, but I was pleased to see that they were at least using retention holsters.
