I was bidding on that infamous auction site for two 5-pound rolls of 95-SN 5-SB solder. Most bidders seemed to think they were 1-pound rolls, except me and one other guy. I stopped at $52 and let him take it.

What's 10 pounds of lead-free solder worth, about $150? More?

Bob

Well, 1 LB of that at the lumber yard near me is about $20. Was $12 about 3 months ago. I picked up 2lb last month at $14 (marked price) even though the register came up as $20 per lb. I complained and got the posted price.

You're no idiot, Bob. You were bidding for a good price. There are a dozen different kinds of lead-free solder. You specified 95% tin and 5% antimony. It's fairly common.

Depending upon the online source, a single 8-oz spool of 1/8" diameter tin/antimony solder retails online for maybe $12 to $16 plus shipping. It would take 20 spools to make 10 pounds but no one would buy 10 pounds by buying 20 small spools. I would be certain that it goes for much less in bulk.
