Today I shoot Wolf steel case .30 carbine through my IMI 888 carbine and after 30 rounds the extractor rim was torn off . I would like to know if anyone has similar experience or any idea how this happen. Can steel core case broke the extractor of this nearly new carbine? how that happen and how can I prevent it ? I also would like to know if the mil spec extractor will fit this gun ?

The M1 Carbine extractor is somewhat of a weak link. I've replaced two, on two different guns, in the last year.

The extractor on my (NIB) IAI Carbine was broken when I bought it. IAI used some used GI parts.

The steel case ammo may have contributed to the extractor breaking but maybe, maybe not.
Personally I don't shoot Wolf in my Carbines.

Last I saw, GI extractors were selling at the gun shows for about $8 and the spring and plunger a couple dollars. It would be smart to get a spare extractor and spring and plunger.

The extractor can be changed without a bolt tool but it's a bugger. Bolt tools run about $20-$30.

BTW, the 888 is IAI, not IMI. It was made by a company in Houston. They also made it in 5.7 Johnson. Wish I had bought one of those.

Thank you kindly for the information. I got IMI and IAI mixed up and was unable to find the company contact info ( I even e-mail the IMI for the spare part). I manage to find the spare extractor on my parts box and replaced them this afternoon ,it was tricky and very hair pulling operation and I even have the tool for it .

I read somewhere the IMI's were the same as the USGI's except for the barrels and receivers. Check with Numrich Gun Parts in the link. They have a toll free number.

Thank you for the information ,I order 2 of them but I hope I don't have to replace it soon. I order 500 rounds of Wolf steel case and I plan to shoot them up and not order any more of this because I suspect that steel case and tight chamber will cause the extractor beak to tear off.:)
