One of the Mythbusters episodes was about firing guns underwater, and that got me curious. Unless they took proper care of the guns afterward, they'd wind up with some very expensive pieces of rusted junk.

So, if your gun were somehow to fall into the water, how would you prevent it from rusting? Bake it? Detail-strip it?

I've seen more than one gun found in water and had been there for a long time !! They were cleaned and then fuctioned normally !!Just take it apart, dry it and oil it .

I clean my Black Powder revolvers in warm soapy water every time I shoot them.

Low temp oven on a cookie sheet til dry, then lube them.

Doesn't hurt a thing.

Here's what I do after shooting in the rain:

1. Unload and disassemble
2. Spray down with Simple Green
3. Towel dry all parts
4. Spray down with CLP
5. Clean all parts
6. Towel dry
7. Lube and reassemble

I got rained on once while hunting. Actually it poured and soaked me. I cleaned my rifle with WD-40 to dry any excess water. Then wiped off all of the excess WD-40 with a good lint free shop cloth. The wood should dry fine after a few hours.

Every else beat me to the punch here, but it's true that all you have to do is look after it with some good oiling et cetera.

You know, soldiers have been carring rifles in the rain and other wet environments for a couple hundred years now. I'm sure the Swiss K31s have seen more than a little bit of snow and they seem to have held up just fine.
