Imperial Sizing Wax

Need some help from user's of Imperial Sizing Wax. I reload large quantities of 223 and 308's on my Dillon 550B I normally use a spray lubefor lubing my cases, usually dumping them into an old plastic bag, spraying them, and shaking the bag untill all cases are lubed and then let them dry. Several of my friends swear by Imperial, but use single stage presses, and lube cases one at a time. I would like to try Imperial, but wonder if there is a good method for quickly lubing 200 or more cases at a time.

Imperial is hands down the slickest of the half-dozen or so lubes I've tried, but it ain't built for speed. I use spray lubes for bulk.

With Imperial, I only lube about every 3rd to 5th rifle case. It's kind of like working with Chapstick.

Hornady One shot works pretty good, but I have less issues with the Imperial. The Imperial lubed cases have more consistent feel running through the dies and the cleanup is easy.

You and they ain't the same. Your friends are using the best method and lube for themselves, same as me. But, you are using the best method and lube for your needs.

I wear a rubber glove and apply the wax to my fingers. I roll the case in my fingers when I pick it up to place it in the press.

Give it a try: I use both - spray & the others. Don't limit your options for something so inexpensive!

Ignore the neck and shoulder, just the case body from the shoulder to base. You don`t need total coverage.

Here is what I use and it works great.

First I dip the neck down in this -

Imperial Dry Neck Lube Application Media 1 oz Our Price: $7.49

Then I smear a little of this on the body of the case -

Imperial Case Sizing Wax 2 oz Our Price: $7.49

It works better than anything I've ever used and it will last a looooong looooong time. A dab will do ya.

I have used it for 20 yrs and still have a third of a tin left. I shot between 4k and 5k rounds just this summer alone. The stuff is the bomb. I bought another tin a few months ago just in case something crazy happens (like this lousy economy drives em out) and figure that should last me another 10-20 yrs even with my increased round count.

I bought a tin two years ago and have hardly made a dent in it. I lube about every other case and run my finger over the case mouth just to keep the expander lubed. I agree that there is no fast way to use Imperial but, for my money, it's the best case lube available.

Can not argue with that. I do like the others, use my fingers and skip some cases.

I've had good luck with STP oil treatment. Cut it with a solvent and spray it on the cases.

I use "Imperial Sizing Wax" for single stage work and spray lube for bulk work on my 550b. Its just the way these lubes were intended. If you want speed, wax is not the way to go. Its a great lube but will not complement your progressive press at all. It will work but you will loose much of the benefit of the progressive capacity.

I wax up my fingers and palms, grab up 5-6 cases at a time, and roll them between my hands. Just have a bowl to catch the greased ones, and grab another handfull. Pretty fast way, really, and reapply wax every 2-3 handfulls of cases.

I bought an extra Thumler's tumbler barrel. I toss my rifle cases in the thing and tumble the cases with a flannel patch saturated with RCBS water soluble.

Too much lube on the patch and I will get neck dents, so I have learned how much lube for the patch.

I can tumble a couple of hundred cases while I am doing something else.

Imperial is great stuff but takes longer to apply.

Excellent idea. I'm now trying to think of a way to make it work with a vibratory cleaner. Multiple small pieces of cloth, maybe?

Thankyou to all who mentioned Imperial in this or other threads, I've been away from reloading for a while and never heard of the stuff, if it's half as good as you all say I will be very happy with the tin I picked up today.

Swipe finger across lube tin, and give the brass a quick twist in your hand dragging the lubed finger over it, then drag finger over case mouth. It doesn't take much.
It will definately slow down progressive reloading a bit, but then again so will a rifle case stuck in a sizing die.

bulk lubing

I use Imperial but I really prefer Lees case lube, its a water based wax and the effort to size cases,WSM s is much less museing nthe Lee stuf. Now to bulk lube-put a bit of Lees in a ziploc(heavier freezer bag) now add acouple of tablespoons of alky-isopropyl works fine. Put as many cases as you can manage inthe bag and shaake, rattle and roll pul the cases out and let them dry or run em wet. Lube the inside necks , here the lee stuff is just fine gauze cvered Qtip slipped around the inside neck does it. The Imperial dry lube has got tobe good too. I see about a 25# effort on the handle this way with the Imperrial I see abt 35#. Never stuck a case W/either.
