Ok so a buddy and I are waiting on our FFL to process, starting a kitchen table/internet order only shop here in Az. The question I have is the ATF Agent explained that your average FFL can import guns from outside the U.S. providing it falls into certain situations (i.e. ordered items/not for a standing inventory).

The second part of my question is that I know most police departments do not destroy confiscated firearms, but instead auction them off.

I wondered if anyone knew about any way to import arms (obviously non NFA items) from Iraq etc. Iraqi police captured arms etc. My manager at my day job was asking me about it after some pics of captured arms made their way around the company emails.

Just curious, I've heard about the tariq etc. and that they aren't bad guns. Thought it'd be cool to be the only guy on the block who had one (I'm sure if it can be done some others would be interested but who's arguing).

Sure, you just need to START with your importers lisense... which IIRC is ~$5,000 per year.

The books the ATF sends you should spell out in detail everything you want to know.

hmmm

The Agent we spoke with explained that for 1-2 a day you don't need an import license, there are a few other provisions to that but that was the general gist of it. Any thoughts?

Check atf.gov's import FAQ document. IIRC, there's a huge list of countries that are off-limits to importers..I remember Vietnam and China being on there, so I suspect Iraq probably is as well.

Ok. I do not intend on making a derogatory statement. I am merely pointing out what I know from personal experiences. So I do not mean to offend.

First of all the IPs and IA (Iraqi Police / Iraqi Army) use the weapons that they detain and destroy the big stuff. Secondly, the only weapons that are really ever taken in are ones that you cannot have in the States no matter what class of gun license(RPGs/Mortar Tubes/Russian Missile platforms/AT-5/etc). Ok so you have to understand that these firearms are junk. They are all 20 years old for the most part, buried in dirt, and originally were manufactured with poor quality. The IPs and IA in addition to the dissolved ICDC (Iraqi Civil Defense Corp) were issued Glocks by US forces. They also carry AKs but so does every man, woman, and child. They druel over the M16 style firearms. They do not have nor own the "quality" (in my opinion junk) AKs we have here in the states. The housing and reciever is cookie cutter stamped sheet metal (about like the license plate on your car). And as far as import and export of any firearm, explosive, or material from the Country of Iraq is completely forbidden as US Navy Customs is the only authority over import/export of the country. Not the Iraqi Ministry of Defense nor US Customs.

What non-NFA firearms do you plan on finding in Iraq?

I'm laughing, but I'm serious, some old sandy Egyptian Mausers? Hi Power copies? Good luck turning a profit on anything from that place. You wouldn't make money importing parts kits at 1-2 a day either. Guess it's a fun thing to wish about on the internet.
