Ok, I just bought a used S&W M&P .40c from the local shop. My assumption is that it's standard .40 S&W caliber, so after my purchase I went to WallyWorld and bought some .40 caliber ammo.

Then I get the gun home and as I'm looking at the magazines, I notice they say:

40 S&W
.357

All three magazines (there is a full-size one included) say this.

The shop owner didn't make any mention of this. I assumed it's .40 caliber, but then I know you can get the .357 barrel for these, too. And the gun is a consignment sale, so there could be confusion or miscommunication. I'm new to semi-autos, so I could use some advice.

Do your M&P .40 caliber, stock magazines say ".357" on them?

The .40 caliber ammo fits these mags perfectly. Why do they have .357 written on their side? :scrutiny:

You are fine.

S&W uses the same magazines for the .40 and 357SIG (there is no decimal point in the name of the cartridge) models. The .40 is the parent case for the 357SIG and they regularly share the same magazines
