nothing that someone else hasnt done, thats why im asking.

but, i want a rear peep sight on my AK mounted on the cover back where a rear sight should be.

im thinking AR type or HK diopter type either screwed and epoxied or TIG'd onto the cover.

i know the deal with the sight changing zeroes a bit because of the possible movement of the scope cover, but mine fits damn snug and seems to hit the same spot every time, besides, its an AK. :)

so, any help? pictures of someone elses project? source for the rear sight etc?

thanks

The back cover is not a load bearing part and it is not solidly attached to the barrel. If the variation due to dust cover movement is significantly less than the accuracy of your gun, it shouldnt be a problem.

I would personally put it on the sight or attach it via the side rail, which is attached solidly to the receiver. I am surprised no one makes an AK side mount peep sight.

red star arms makes a peep sight that replaces the stock rear site. It's around 50 bucks. I keep meaning to order one, but haven't gotten around to it yet. That would be the way to go, because the rear cover is so sloppy.

I have a Mojo peep rear sight on my Bulgarian AK. Even though it's mounted forward, in place of the original sight, it's a major improvement.

Krebs Custom used to make a rear cover sight using an AR15 A2 sight. They don't seem to have it on their website and last I heard they were redesigning it. Maybe try emailing them.

They've been redesigning that at least since I got into AKs, last dec. or jan.

+1 on the Williams peep sight. Replaces the rear sight and makes a big difference for me. I much prefer the Garand style sight picture.

I would just mount a good red dot on the side mount and get a Mojo ghost ring sight for back up. The Mojo does give a significantly better sight picture, even if it doesn't increase the sight radius, and I doubt any iron sight on the market could boast the speed and precision allowable by a Kobra, PK-AS, or PSOP.
