i've been trying to find a suitable powder for my newly built 300 BLK rifle for a month or so... can't seem to find none. Recently there is some IMR 4227 at a store 30 mins away... the main purpose of this build is for a deer rifle.

I have been researching the load data as listed on Nosler and what people are using. I am using 125 gr Nosler BT and it list 16, 17, and 18 gr... the 17 and 18gr are compressed loads. I've never loaded compressed loads before and am a little worried. will it be safe staying within the range? If most maybe 17.5grs. it's also an extruded powder which I have not worked with before.

with some estimated calculations from Nosler's data the 16gr loads under the 125 gr bullet will generate around 944 ft-lbs of energy... don't know if that is enough to take deer cleanly... that's less energy that a standard 55 gr .223... what do you guys think.

Well I'm going to get some anyways and see how it works. I still have a few months left to find and try other powders should the opportunity arise. Or I can just buy factory ammo which I have seen around.

I recently sighted in a Leupold 2-7x32 with my first 300 aac reloads. 17.0 gr I-4227 under a 150 Sierra game king. Fired 8 rounds through a new rifle. Then I hung a new target and had a 1" group.

Haven't been back to the range, I also have some of the 125 gr Nosler loaded. Another powder that is supposed to be good is AA 1680.

i had wanted the w296 and h110 but can't find none. i just got back from the shop and picked up a lb of IMR 4227 and two lbs of w748. I'm going to give the 4227 a try with the noslers. it was between the nosler bt and Barnes Tac vor-tx. i went with the nosler bt because some people swear by it and the boat tail design.
