Does anyone know where IMR`s new Trailboss powder falls on the powder burn rate chart? It looks like if it is near 2400, it would be a great choice for reduced charge cast bullet loads in rifles. :D I wrote IMR, and Im now waiting for a response.

I have the IMR 2005 Smokeless Powder Reloaders Guide (the free handout) and it lists 6 Trail Boss recipies for long range rifle in their Cowboy action data.

At the top of the list it says to call (913) 362-9455 for advice on any other cartridge.

In 30-30 they list a recipe for the 165 gr cast LFN. I am interested in the 120 gr LRN, so I guess I will call them.

I am interested too in a light load in .30-06. I already have 2 jugs of it and am anxiously awaiting for some free time.

IMR wrote me back, and they said its burn speed is close to Bullseye. Too fast for cast rifle loads, IMO.

Trailboss worked REAL good in my 45-70 with loads between 12 grs all the way up to 16...16 started to give some recoil with my carbine (contender).

I am still working on more data as I get a chance...

as far as cast bullets goes...I am going to be trying a 170 LFN in my 20" model 94 as soon as I can get to the range....I have also been looking into a load for my 44 mag with some 240 gr Keith style bullets and some 250 gr SWC's. I see much potential for the Cherrios.... :)
