Anyone have any experience with cast bullets in LR 308.:D

Should a medium burning powder such as IMR 4895 be used as in M1's?

The Bullets are 165 gr. cast hard.

You are going to have a heck of a time getting the gun to cycle reliably with the sub 2000fps loads that you will need to use to avoid leading up the gas system. I can't see it working even with a gas check.

I don't know about 308 but I know a few people that tried to shoot lead in a 223 AR and had to remove the gas system to clean it after only around 20 to 30 rounds.

You want to go to cast boolits and ask there. I wouldn't worry as much about leading the bore. With proper fit, lube and hardness you can exceed 2000 fps without leading, and some guys get 2500 +.

However, the gas tube may be another story altogether. The guys at cast boolits will know.
