I would like to make one disclaimer...... as long as it was not made in America you are allowed to sell 1 gun per year; however, you have to shoot yourself in the foot (socks allowed) with a BB gun as penance for your unrighteous behavior. This does not give you the authority to sell a Smith & Wesson revolver (unless it has a lock which is basically un-American).

Trades are permitted, but you must not trade an America firearm for a foreign firearm EVER. Any deviation from this standard requires 1 pellet shot to the foot (no socks allowed).

Any revolver out of current production may not be traded, sold, or otherwise disposed of (you will be haunted endlessly). Colt double action revolvers must be loved, and Smith & Wesson pinned and recessed revolvers deserve weekly homage in the form of oil baths. Sleeping with guns is OK prior to oil baths, but must be avoided until 24 hours after an oil bath (R E S P E C T).

Pretty simple to me! One and most important part of your question...HARD TIMES!

It is not like reloading supplies would be readily available or cheap if it were indeed hard times.

The .22 would stay! I can defend myself , I can feed myself! and I can have thousands of rounds CHEAP!

Stingers are deadly! I would not hesitate defending myself with the .22 or taking down a deer with it! and I have seen it done with a Ruger .22 and a CCI Stinger!

Just remember...... even your lowliest firearm ($70 Mosin Nagant) may one day have to kill another Nazi.... someday.

If hard times are truly on the horizon for you then I would look at selling sooner than later so you can maximize your return instead of cashing out at a local gunshop for a percentage of its true value.
Prime example, myself. I've been off work four four months due to a broken back, I've procrastinated on selling some of my guns. One that I intended to ditch was my little used Beretta 92. I decided to let it go this week, as a precaution against other money not arriving on time. I then find that the importers new price for a Beretta 92 was reduced by $1000 last week, so with the spare mags and .22 conversion I'll be out of pocket $2000 when it sells.

Now S&W won't be dropping the cost of Model 17s & 25s in a hurry as they are part of their premium classic range these days, but the USA is a lot shakier economically than Australia is. If you feel you will need to cash out on some material posessions then its probably wise to do so now.

Oh yeah, I would keep the 617 as it will be cheaper to feed on a reduced budget & I would offload the cheaper guns first as they will be easier to replace at roughly the same price when things pick up.

If things got REALLY bad I'd keep the Model 25-5 . . . and use it to rob a bank to replenish my safe! Just kidding of course!!!

I hope you can hang onto both revolvers!!!

When you say "hard times" I think of someone getting by with the barest of minimums in terms of finances. That would mean that the most economical to shoot revolver would remain while the other one would be sold. A .22LR will always be less expensive to shoot versus a revolver in .45LC. To my way of thinking, that would make the Model 17 the most obvious choice in this situation.
