Stage one.. started wih my hat, blew off by 2nd position. I really need a chin strap on that thing. Thanks to the new guys for snapping some pics. (Nice bit of brass in the air.) Note in that shot I forgot to reverse kneel and am on the wong side of the fence post.

Got some running in with Justin, he moves fast and since we had to scramble down a cliff face that's no easy task.

I hadn't met Matt before but he ran two rifles (SCAR and an iron sighted AK-74) and worked his butt off.

Just moved to CO over the summer. Havn't been on THR in quite a while. Just now stumbled into this. How would I get involved come next spring?

That is easy, just show up. We have the competition at the Pueblo West Sportsman's Assoc range on the 4th Sunday of the month. I believe the first match is in April. The fee is $10 or $15. Setup starts a little after 7 and we could always use an extra hand. Send Hoser or Justin a pm for directions and the gate code.

Match fee is $15, which works out to $5/stage. Pretty screaming deal.

If you use a calendar program, be sure to set it to give you a reminder for next year so you don't forget.

If you need directions to the range and a gate combo, send a PM to Hoser, Me, or Robert.

Great fun on the 28th!

Shotgun berm with 5 positions on a steep hill face as if you were falling back and taking cover.

Lots of up and down hill, changing light conditions but thankfully little wind. Still hot and dirty, just not 100 degrees hot.

Justin had a good run with iron sights as well as a scoped AR.

Fun day shooting and we had the standard 'obstacle course' of odd barricades to shoot through and over.

Some were deceptively difficult.

Keep your feet in the box.. while the loophole in the wall provided a firing port the 'wall' wasn't set securely--on purpose.

Then there was the matter of the 'small prone' platform.

And why your competition rifle might get scratched up.

Still it was a GREAT day of shooting in a friendly competition in a great location.

May match winner Curtis on the course with a tricked out 308. Fast transitions and reloads are key, but getting your hits wins matches.

Irons or scopes, AR's might rule the roost but they aren't the only rifles we see. Mike proves you can get it done without optics in a blistering run.

June's match had a number of challenging positions. We had a number of first time shooters and everyone had a blast in spite of a very hot and bright day.

Of course, transitions always get you the best pics.

Here's Justin on stage 2. If you look like you are moving fast you are probably doing it right.

This reverse rooftop proved challenging for everyone at 250 yards. There just isn't much to hold onto. Some sussed it out and made it look easy. I was NOT one of those people ;)

Justin snapped three pics ... don't know how he got three different pieces of brass in the air--but I found yet ANOTHER pic with brass flying.

Broke my green rifle on stage 1, so I switched to my back up Colt 6920. I could tell it had been a while since I shot a 'stock' rifle. It ran like a top but is nowhere near accurate as one with a free floated barrel.

Some positions were easy, some challenging as yoga with guns! Shoot and move like you mean it but you don't have to derby slide into your position like I do. ;)

Dr.Rob, good to see you running old school with a scope on the carry handle.

Usually suggesting such a thing on this forum gets you beat up by a gang of young guys that think it is so out of date and can't be done with any proficiency.
(BTW, I love my Colt with it's carry handle scope, LOL.)

.

Acera, you might be disappointed to know I have been running a purpose built competition rifle for a while. I still use my Colt as a back up, or when we have a more run and gun style match.

My competition rifle I put together on a Noveske lower with a fixed A2 stock. Model One made my upper, a fluted ER Shaw 1:9, 16 inch 'varmint' barrel, free floated. The BCG is commercial profile but it runs great. I topped it with a Burris 536 prism sight and a super sling. The free float really helps on longer range shots. I have made shots with the Colt out to 400, but I can do it with far more consistency with my green rifle. Took this after the match, it was dirty dusty day and your rifle might show it.
