Yes, nearly 80% of states allow 2 individuals to barter/trade without the interference of an FFL. All you need is a Bill of Sale.

We can even do private, face-to-face pistol transfers here in NJ.... 'course, the recipient still needs his permit to purchase a handgun - but no FFL required.

That IS tru for interstate transactions, but not true for (all) intrastate sales.
This is also what is often refereed to as the "Gun Show Loophole", even though it has =nothing= to do with gunshows, other than that a face to face intrastate transaction can take place there.

Actually, not ALWAYS true interstate, as well, one important exception. I send a handgun in for work to the manufacturer, they may send it back to me directly via overnight express. Just had that happen with my Tuarus, shipped by me from UPS hub to FL, and back to me from FL to AZ via FedEx. Not one FFL in my state was involved, and it's legal as church on whatever day of the week you wish.
Oh, and intrastate, AZ has no heartburn with FTF non FFL transactions of any non-NFA firearms, just says if you sell to a prohibited possessor, be prepared to face the consequences,

NH allows FTF without the use of a FFL. However the state statute makes it the responsibility to know that the transfer does not violate any laws and that the buyer is legally able to accept and possess a firearm. Transfer to a person not permitted to posses leaves the seller in a precarious position. I only have transfered to a individual I knew was able to accept. I'd be very reluctant to transfer to a stranger.l

I was under the impression that handguns were legal to sell here in private party transfers with no FFL as long as the buyer has either a CCL or a pistol permit (to prove they can pass a background check). Anyone care to confirm/deny this?

This site is not correct for IL. It states face to face is "legal for long guns only elsewhere". Not correct. IL allows face to face without FFL transfer for handguns and long guns. The seller is required to confirm the buyer has a state issued FOID card and to keep record of the transaction for 10 years. No FFL involvement is needed.
