I've been keeping my eye out lately for an all-metal 9mm auto. I don't want one enough to seek out something new, but if I were to come across something used for the right price, I'd go for it.

So far the contenders are:

Smith & Wesson 5906
Stoeger Cougar
CZ 75

So far I'm leaning towards the Smith since they might be harder & harder to find in nice shape as time passes.

Anything else good that I could add to the list? I thought of the Taurus PT92 since they could probably be found much cheaper than the Beretta used.

I'll vote for the 5906, I love the one I have now and I will forever regret trading the first one I had in on another gun (I had special-ordered it new from the factory). Smooth shooting, accurate and reliable...CDNN has them for $300 or $325 right now, I believe.

I'd go for the CZ 75. Very accurate, reliable, and they just feel good in the hand.

Isn't the cougar an alloy frame though?

Yep the Cougar is an alloy frame gun. Excellent gun I might add, I have two of them, 8000 F 9mm and 8045 .45 acp.

Either the S&W or the CZ75. Both are great guns. I have 3 CZ75s and love them. I would like to eventually pick up a 5906 though.

Stoeger Cougars sell NIB at my local shop for $369. That's a lot of handgun for the money. I have only seen one used & it was $225, it sold the same day.

The CZ sells NIB for $489, same shop. Truly a classic, outperforms guns more than twice it's price. Used are around $400.

I own the above both have been flawless, never liked the S&W's just don't fit my hands.

5906...but go ahead and get 2 because you will like if so much you will be buying another one soon after

Shot my brothers 5906 from CDNN this weekend. Great gun, in great condition. I've shot neither of the other two guns you mentioned, but you certainly could not go wrong with the 5906.

Right now S&W are the deal. $299 at CDNN, $307 at Widener's (orders of 2 or more, and ship free).

If I had a need for what you are asking for, I'd bite on one of those.

Can't go wrong with the 5906 for the price. I've got three 3rd Gen S&W .45s and love 'em. The 5906 should absorb 9mm recoil until the felt recoil is like a .22. ;)

While I really like the CZ, the current deals on the used 5906s would be very hard to pass up if I were in the market. It's a whole lot of gun for the money.

+1 for the S&W. I have the 2nd gen 469 9mm, and aside from a bit of a chuny grip, is a fantastic pistol.

The CZ, I've heard good things about. I was going to buy the one my LGS had, but it was sold before I got around to it. Got the S&W instead.

I'm not familiar with the Taurus version of the Beretta 92, but I'm very familiar with the Beretta. My LGS has a new one, and a used one. Used one is $450. not sure what the Taurus runs new, but I'd advise that you shop around for a used Beretta. Just my .02

Don't forget about the Star model 28, 30, and 31. Awesome guns but hard to find nowadays.

If you like the Beretta, skip the Taurus clone, and get the American Tactical clone from CDNN for $299. They're so good that you'd think they were the real thing but for the roll marks.

Otherwise, the used 5906's from CDNN are excellent.

Or if you just want a range toy, there are tons of walther p38/p1's floating around right now on the surplus sites for around $300. I really like mine. It's a cool piece of history and a great shooter.

Sorry for the flub, I should have stuck to "all metal". Doesn't have to be steel-framed.

Thanks for the suggestions!
