........there's a good article titled...."Dear NRA, Where's all the Ammo?".

Anyone else read it?

I didn't, anything good in the article?

Yeah...lots. They basically dispelled the myth of the Government buying up all the ammo and laid the blame of the shortages on

1.) gun owners shooting more

2.) more retail points opening up because of increased interest in shooting, thus resulting in stock being spread out more

3.) the competition for raw materials from other countries and for other products

4.) the fear many Americans have that the 2nd Amendment is not safe and the "get it while you can" mentality it is promoting.

The raw material argument is a bust. As for the .gov buying all I can say is there has been an explosion of 40 cal available coming after Congressional inquiry into government purchases. A strange coincidence for sure.

What "I" got out of the article was, too much hoarding going on by the buying public.... Same reason given by all the other gun magizine articles i've read.

Did you read the article? Do you understand how commodities like lead and copper are bought and sold? Are you saying the NRA is now in on this government conspiracy, and they too are now lying to us gun owners?

an "explosion"?
Don't you mean you just have noticed .40 ammunition available for sale when other ammo's have been out of stock? Are you implying there was a verifiable flood of .40 ammo onto the market that was a direct result of congress applying pressure and ammo being released from federal holdings back out into the general market to cover up some sort of ammo buying conspiracy?

^IME, .40 has been the one pistol caliber that has been relatively available throughout the whole post-Sandy Hook/Newtown shooting and legislative hoopla. I say "relatively," because I've always seen .40 in one form or another (not all weights/configurations, but at least there was something) at Cabela's and other LGS, when 9mm was non-existant.

And I've had little to no trouble getting .38, .357, and .44 (SP and Magnum), and have seen plenty of .380 on the shelves, as well.

The only ammo I've seen out of stock has been 40 cal. I see more 22lr than .40 cal pistol ammo. Now its everywhere I look. I've never bought into this .gov conspriacy but I can only relate what I see.

As to the question of my knowledge of how copper and other metals are traded. Yes. In fact I can tell you where copper closed yesterday. Can you? Some people read books. I read 10K's and 10 Q's. I always have the tape at my fingertips. I'm always within ear shot of CNBC and other business news sources. I start my morning readings with the financial news from the US,Asia and Europe. My smartphone and IPad keep me up to date on the latest movements in the market.

You do know the average LME copper price was $3.42 per pound in the first half of 2013 which is 6.8% lower than in the first half of 2012. You do of course know about SCCO's production will be cut 10,000 tons due to lower demand in Asia and Europe. I'm guessing you have also factored into your ammo/reloading purchases the impact of Peru's new air quailty laws that take effect in 2014.
