Applied for my lifetime CCP nearly 10 weeks ago and haven't heard or seen anything yet.Anyone else in Indiana have simmilar problems. My last carry permit came in 6 weeks,Indiana claims they will deliver in 6 to 8 weeks.Police department told me they had a flood of people wanting the new lifetimes.

I mailed my in the day after New Years and got it back beginning of March. I only went for the 4 year instead of the lifetime permit.

My understanding is that they have a backlog of permits to be issued and are having trouble keeping up because they are under staffed.

I was told as long as you have your old permit and a receipt for the application of the new one you are golden.

You know, concealed carry permit.CCW doesn't make sense to me it's redundant.Anyway thanks for the insight.I let my old permit expire last November.Guess I'll just have to wait it out.

CCW, CCP, CWP, etc., no such thing here.

We have license to carry a handgun (LTCH), carry--open, concealed, under your hat, on a boat with a goat, inter alia. Contrary to Kirk's First Law of the Internet (may it be praised), there is no concealment requirement in Indiana.

My husband and I unfortunately waited until early March to renew ours and make them lifetime. They said it was a 16 week minimum wait. I think (and take this as informtion said on the internet) that as long as you apply 30 days before your permit expires that your is supposed to stay valid. I know people that are using their old permit, and receipt for application. Not sure how the local LEOs may respond. Here in Julia Carson's district, I'm not sure I want to be the guinea pig.

It's government work. What do you expect? :D It is a bummer you can't apply for a life time permit until your current permit is close to expiring.

My g/f and I are still waiting for our Indiana lifetime permits.

We sent in the paperwork on jan 12th. We were told that it could take 12 weeks. I was looking at other forums and found a guy and his wife also sent theirs in on Dec 12th and they recieved the permits 87 days later(counting weekends also). Other folks i read about have gotten theirs in the 100 day range.

I am expecting mine around April 10th.

on a side note not ment to hijack.

my police department may of messed up my chances. On the application it asks if you have ever been convicted of a crime.... more than one person said that the form was worded wrong and they wanted to know of any arrests. Well I was arrested and all charges were dropped, since my arrest I have bought handguns so my record is clear. but I told them about it and they told me I had to check the box. Well I will be getting a lawyer if denied....

we just moved here and it is so stupid we need somekind of permit to go target shooting. I have been told you don't need the permit but all the other info I read says we need them. I miss Michigan sometimes....

IC 35-47-2-6 (b) said:
The period during which an application for the renewal of an existing license may be filed begins one hundred eighty (180) days before the expiration of the existing license. If the application for renewal of an existing license is filed within thirty (30) days of its expiration, the existing license is automatically extended until the application for renewal is passed upon.
My CLEO told me that the old permit would stay valid so long as I had proof of application. I went a step further, though, and printed out the relevant state code. It's located here: IC 35-4-7-2-6 (b)

Almost 12 weeks for mine to get into the system and approved. I just have to wait for the mailman to drop it off. I just spoke with the ISPFLS.

My g/f's application still has not been entered into the system.

If anyone wants to check their status the number is: 317 233 5045
All you need is name/DOB/address to ask the application number is not needed.

My city police department charged me 50.00, the state fee was 75.00

So almost 12 weeks of wait and only 125 dollars for a lifetime permit.

Since I found out that I was approved I will be crawling out of my skin until I recieve it in the mail. I have not gone out shooting with my own guns in 6 months due to the stupid laws about transporting them without somekind of permit.

CN, yes, look at Indiana's statutes on carrying. Cannot transport pistol to range/woods without carry permit of some sort (yes, I know, this statute is violated daily).

Oh, wow....I stand corrected.

Learn something new every day.

Wow, I didn't realize that either. I guess my prior assumption was that transporting a pistol was ok as long as you followed the federal law of having it unloaded and locked up, since you could legally possess it at home and at your destination.

So do I understand correctly that the federal "peaceable journey" law only applies to interstate travel, and that the Indiana law holds for transporting a pistol within the state?

Cannot transport pistol to range/woods without carry permit of some sort (yes, I know, this statute is violated daily).

As long as your range/woods is on the same property with your residence,
you're ok. But, don't even attempt to travel down the back county road
w/o that permit. Also, don't be out on your private range in the woods if it's
hunting season w/o a hunting license otherwise you can risk a run in with
IN's infamous DNR. They have their own way of seeing things.....it cost me
a little $ to help correct their vision once, but I'm sure they've snapped back
to myopia since then.

Over 15 years ago my wife had the fasted approved IN LTCH I'd ever seen.
Signed her forms on a monday, mailed out that day, had a the permit by the
following monday. This was back when it was still hard to get the permit and
the unwritten rule was if you mentioned anything about your "2nd Amendment
Right" in the application, you were to be rejected. We've moved around a lot
since then and she's never bothered to get another.

I haven't posted in quite some time. Any how, I applied for my Indiana Lifetime LTCH July 1, 2006. That was the first day the new legislation took effect. We also had a newly appointed Sheriff starting that day. I had my paperwork filled out awaiting his signature when he arrived at approximately 0700. [I know most of the deputies and jailers and have access to the squad room]

Any way, the new Sheriff comes in and I shake his hand congratulating him on his appointment. He looks over my application and signs it, I pay my money and six weeks later I have my Lifetime LTCH.

My very first one, 20 some years ago, took about a week.

Also, your copy of the application and your old LTCH covers you while you are waiting on the new one.

carrying without a license

I was under the impression that if the firearms were secured in a proper way (seperate from ammo, mags, and in a locked container or trunk) that you could go to and from a qualified gunsmith with them. Since my indoor range has a gunsmith on hand wouldn't that be kosher? If not a lot of people in IN are breaking the law whenever they go shooting.

Exceptions to carrying without a license:

(10) any person engaged in the business of manufacturing, repairing, or dealing in firearms or the agent or representative of any such person having in his possession, using, or carrying a handgun in the usual or ordinary course of that business; or
(11) any person while carrying a handgun unloaded and in a secure wrapper from the place of purchase to his dwelling or fixed place of business, or to a place of repair or back to his dwelling or fixed place of business, or in moving from one dwelling or business to another.

Sooo...I want to hunt with a handgun, but need to have a carry permit??

Seems odd since you can't carry concealed while hunting in IN.

Not that odd, since it's a license to carry a handgun and doesn't specify how. In Indiana, concealed is less trouble (sometimes a lot less) but it is not required.
