Howdy folks,

I have just bought a Navy Arms "Hawken" 50 cal rifle. Its over twenty years old. The former owner thinks it may be a hunter model, but isn't sure. It looks more like the T/C Trade Rifle than anything else. Is it going to have a 1:48 twist, or 1:66? The barrel is 28 inches long.

Does anyone have any experience with this particular rifle? The rifle is not in my possession yet or I would post a pic for identification purposes.

Thanks.

Just mark a ramrod and see how far it takes shoving it down the Barrel to get back to same markif it makes one half turn in 24" down the barrel its a 1in 48"

The Hawken Hunter model had a slightly longer barrel (28.5") than the regular Hawken (28") but weighed considerably less (7 3/4 lbs vs 8 1/2 lbs), according to the Blue Book of Modern Black Powder Arms. No twist information was given.

According to my 1980 Gun Digest, their Hawken Hunter model was a .58 which may account for its lighter weight despite having a longer barrel.
Their Hawken Hurricane was available in .45 or .50, but the barrel twist rate is not given.
It's listed as having a 28 inch barrel, American made with a Walnut stock, fixed rear sight and was available as a kit.
