Info on 32 Winchester CTG

Hi I was wondering if anyone has any info on my revolver that was handed down to me.
On the side of the barrel it says 32 Winchester CTG, On the top of barrel it says Smith & Wesson Springfield Mass USA, with several patent dates last one being Feb 6, 06. On the butt it has 47717.
Any help would be great.

The 32 Winchester cartridge is the 32-20 Winchester. Not much information given but it sounds as if you have a early Military and Police. A very solid gun and at one time the 32-20 was considered the Cats meow. The serial number places it at around 1903-1907.

the 32 winchester or 32-20 is a fine revolver round. The late Skeeter Skelton reported that a friend of his went to alaska with a hand ejector in 32-20 as his only weapon. When Skelton went to visit his friend years later he was still shooting all game with his 32-20 and was never hungry. I n part of the tale he insinuated that the little 32-20 was also used to good effect on a bear but I wouldn't do that on a bet.

Thanks for the information. I have shot it a few times and must admit it was nice. It needs to be cleaned up, but it's in good shape. Is there any more identifying marks on it that I am missing?

Just be sure to keep the rifle loadings outta the pistol - there were two distinctly different loadings for that cartridge

Yes, but. They haven't made the HV or HS rifle only loads for about 50 years. So read the label on any antique ammo you find.

The report of these revolvers shooting smokeless powder loads is nearly as sharp as a .30 carbine revolver.
You will probably be amazed at how accurate the gun will group if the bore is still in good condition and the actions are some of the best ever fitted up in any form of double action revolver.
If the bore isn't pitted try to find some Black Hills lead bullet .32/20 Cowboy loads, they will probably prove to be the most accurate cartridge you will find.
If the bore is pitted or a bit rough, find some Winchester jacketed soft points, they too will shoot quite well in the revolver.
Both cartridges will be pricey, at about $25.00 for a box of 50.
.32/20s aren't plinking cartridges anymore unless you can reload and even then the cartridge can be something of a pain to reload for.
You have a great example of a Smith and Wesson revolver, enjoy it.

I appreciate all the information about it. I was wondering about the value, not that I would ever sell it, was just curious. The patent dates start at March 27,94 ends Feb 6,06. 7 different dates on it. I can't find any other numbers on it.

According to Gun Traders Giude, the 32 double action revolver was made from1880-1919 in .32S&W which is a lot different than the .32-20.Values as follows: NIB$438, Exc.$391, Gd $149. The 32-20 is a Military& Police designation. I would calrify this before firing ammo of any caliber in it.The .32-20 version is marked as M&P. These models do look similar.TheM&P version was introduced in 1890 and stopped production about 1940. Values for the .32-20 M&P are as follows:NIB$402, Exc$273, Gd$206. If I'm off base somone please verify that. Thanks.

i think i have one of these but there is one difference, the handle is wider than the one in the above picture. i want to restore this gun but am not sure about the parts because i haven't made a possitive identification. it has 32 winchester on the the barrel same as the one mentioned before but the only readable numbers on the bottom of the handle are 8064. there are no other markings that i can see. everything matches the pictures of the old wichester m&p model accept the handle. any thoughts or suggestions on where to find parts would be appreciated.

32 Winchester Ctg

I recently purchased a revalver and know little about guns. It is the same as the picture above except the but is flat and there is no gold piece in the pistle grip.

S & W 32 long CTG??

Trying to find when the gun was made and to find some history behind the gun. excellent to good I don" know bluing is 80% condition........also trying to find out if it has any value.

under the bullet cylinder there is...... 6259 or 8259


barrel lengths is 6 inches,

finish is blue

adjustable target sights but is missing but the groove is there I think

handle has with diamond pattering. grips made out of? (Wood,

and has a leather carrying holster that look original with drag marks from the missing back sites so the butt of the gun shows.
