An acquaintance at the range mentioned having one and I'm not familiar with this model. Where does it fit in the Remington line and quality? I have and shoot a couple of 700s but now I'm curious about the 783.

I dont know but I want one. One feature I like better than the other cheapies is the magazine. It uses a steel latch instead of plastic

I've had my 783 - 30-06 for about two years now. While not of the famous 700 series it is not to be relegated to the 770's where the bolts basically fall out.

My 783 has reasonable accuracy and a good action that is solid and operates quite satisfactory. This summer I am actually working on an accurate hunting load for my first deer hunt. I have full confidence that I will be able to come up with a good working load and that the Remington 783 will perform very well for its price.

I consider it an excellent value for it price point and capable of performing to its purpose.
