I just inherited a K-31 Smidt rubin (7.5x55). I know nothing about this caliber. Can some tell me the distance that this caliber can shoot accurately and any additional info that any one has would be great.

similar power level to the .30'06 and .308. GP11, the issue ammo, is all match grade. It is a 174gr FMJ bullet that has a muzzle velocity of 2560 fps. With 130 gr bullets, you can get it up to about 3000 fps. The basic design has been in use in Switzerland since 1889. The GP11 variation has been in use since 1911 - the same stuff the whole time, since they never used corrosive primers, and it's always been smokeless powders with an FMJ Spitzer loaded to about 2560 fps.

It is still in use in Switzerland in machine guns, stg57 rifles, and K31 rifles that are used for match shooting, though the K31 is no longer in service at all.

Plenty more info on the rifle and ammo on the net. Have fun researching!

Its amazing the Swiss let go many of these K 31s to us and also the surpus GP 11 ammo. Once they dry up, that s it for us folks. Get the ammo for its the best there is, unrivaled in accuracy. I was skeptical before but once i fired my three shots, i was speechless. I only have 200 rds on stock for now due to i dont shoot that often.

Privi ammo is good ammo for this rifle and is great for reloading too. It did not take much to reload ammo more accurate than GP-11...chris3

I own hundreds of guns; pistols, rifles and shotguns. Now that I'm retired I can enjoy my collection. Great fun.

I own almost all of the WWI and WWII rifles and shoot them all. Probably the most accurate is my 1911 Schmit Ruben. It shoots that 7.5 x 55 round. It is astoundingly accurate and easily an MOA rifle, on a good day, off of those iron sights.

I have a Lee Loader for mine (they used to make almost all calibers) and reload .308 bullets in the 7.5x55. I'd like to have one of those K-31's, but the 1911 is great. It is a very hard shooting rifle and you can load heavy bullets in it. You'll find that straight pull action smooth and fast.

IMHO the K-31 is one of the best rifles made and also one of the best small and medium game rounds. You will also notice that the bore is fine. The Swiss make great rifles. The action in my 1911 is smooth and very fast and seldom hangs up. It's nearly as fast as a semi-auto. It also has a box magazine that you can removed and put in your pocket, so it's safe.

Good for you! Enjoy your wonderful rifle!

Just recently got one of these beauties this summer. Not only were the bore and barrel flawless (as most are), but the rifle just felt...solid. Everything just seemed to be so well put together. The rifle has since become my favorite due to its feel and accuracy with GP11 ammo. If you are a military rifle shooter, it will soon become one of your favorites as well.

Look under the buttplate for a tag with the name of the person the rifle was issued to. The link provided above will give you a boatload of information.

I have 2 and both are tack drivers with GP11 and my reloads.
