I am thinking of purchasing another heavy-barrel rifle in .223 to replace the Rem 700 VS which I just sold. The VS is a wonderful, accurate rifle but was too "large" for me (I am of small stature). I thought of getting the Rem 700 LTR as it is advertised as a shorter, lighter version of the PPS/VS, but also ran across info on the Tikka T3 Varmint rifle. I like the detachable magazine feature vs. the Remington box mag. Does anyone have any information on this rifle? I have seen various very positive comments on other threads about other Tikka models. Thanks!

As far as I'm concerned, the great "sleepers" on the US rifle market are Tikka and CZ. If it's got the Tikka name on it, I'm prepared to buy it sight unseen - they're that good. I've not handled this specific model, but I've handled and fired enough others to be convinced. In fact, I've just placed an order for another Tikka model that I've never seen before - I'm that sure I'll be happy with it.

Thank you, gentlemen. I am closer to making that decision and can feel my wallet starting to open! :D Does anyone have experience with this specific model of Tikka or is it still too new? Thanks!

Prof,
The model you talk of is very new and might not even be on the market yet. If they are, I have yet to see one. I too am in the market for another .223 varmint gun and looking hard at the CZ varmint with the laminated stock. If you are small of frame, check out the CZ with the Kevlar stack. Its pretty light for a varmint gun.
Matt
