Info Request: High Standard Double-Nine .22

Can anyone here tell me anything about the High Standard Double-Nine .22LR revolver? How are they in terms of durability/quality of construction and accuracy? Were there any made with an adjustable rear sight? How long were they in production? Any info/opinions/experiences concerning this revolver would be appreciated. Thanks.

Fairly decent construction.
Better trigger internals than a Harrington Richardson, far worse than a Smith or Colt.
Accuracy fair to midland. They weren't target guns but would shoot well enough for plinking and hunting out to 30 yards or so.
I can't remember the revolver coming with adjustable sights from High Standard but I do remember there were gunsmiths who would install a set if needed or wanted.HTH

I have a high standard marshall, made only in 1972 and 1973, I have put at least 5000 rds thru it and once got 10 rds in the 10 ring at 50 ft, It is my favorite hand gun(its a version of the double 9), for the money its a great deal at $200 or less. I would not trade it for anything and am looking for another to buy.

I saw one at a gun show recently that had drift adjustable rear sights. The tag said it was made in 1969. It was in excellent shape and the owner was asking $250. Seemed like a fair price.

The frames were originally alloy

and the guns would tend to shoot loose prematurely because the frames were not steel....they were aluminum alloy or something similar until sometime not real long before they stopped being made. I think the company switched to steel frames in the very early 1970s. See the post above by Kennedy. I would guess his is an all steel frame. So, do some research on any Double 9 you plan to buy and shoot because you may want to reconsider if it is not all steel framed.

This is my common disclaimer: Buy the book before the gun, that is, buy the reference book and be willing to spend some money on knowledge so you are an educated gun buyer. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER.

My new quest is to find a excellent-mint cond. steel frame blued 5-1/2" .22LR/.22WMR combo Double-Nine with adjustable sights, or a similar condition steel frame blued 5-1/2" .22LR Durango with adjustable sights. I suspect that I'll have to haunt GB, AA, GA for a while before I find what I'm looking for....
