1. Officers Model .38 revolvers were all chambered in .38 Special. If you really have one that was chambered in .38 S&W it should be marked: ".38 New Police," and would be worth a whole lot of bucks. Dating one can be difficult because there were a number of versions that were listed in different serial number series. But I'll take a chance and say 1940, and logged in the Official Police serial number series. Very nice revolver by the way.

2. This appears to be an Army Special .32-20, that preceeded the Official Police. I would date it as being made in 1922

3. Your Detective Special is a lot later then the other two. I date it as being made in 1970 or perhaps 1969.

Additional information on Colt serial numbers will be found at: www.proofhouse.com

Hey Doublet, I've got a .32-20 Army in that 4808xx range as well! I'm not sure about Colt's manufacturing practices, but I'd guess that our pistols were probably on the line at the same time, since it makes sense to do batches of a given caliber at the same time. Small world, huh?

How do you like yours? I've only been able to run about 75 rounds through mine, but she's a sweet little shooter. Too bad .32-20 seems to have dried up locally.

Nice Colts there; I especially like the Army Special in .32-20. There's just something about that cartridge that just gives me a great feeling of nostalgia for the days when revolvers were still the mainstay of the handgunners world.

Detective special manufacture date?

Serial # H19xxx Any help appreciated. Thanks, Jumm
