I know from various gun magazines that there is/was a guy named Ackerly who was a "wildcatter" reloader who came up with several different calibers and improved on several others. My deer rifle is a Marlin .30-.30. I also know that Ackerly had a .30-.30 Ackerly Improved cartridge. Does anyone know how it was improved and will it fit into a regular rifle? How does it compare to the Hornady LeveRevolution .30-.30? Thanks.

Hornady's LEVERevolution cartridge uses a 160 grain bullet, which they claim to fly at 2,400fps at the muzzle.

I have no Ackley data in regards to that particular bullet weight, but his cartridge should exceed that velocity by a bit.

You cannot use the Ackley in a .30-30 Winchester chamber. His shell/case has been modified in a couple ways that you can read about in Gus's links.
