This is my first post after much lurking so, hello to all of you. Now, here is my question.

I am a North Carolina resident and we of course must obtain a purchase permit for any transfer and the permit must be held by the initial owner or seller. This includes gifts and inherited items. Here is the short explanation of my question.

1. Grandfather dies and leaves a revolver behind
2. If it is given to me, who retains the purchase permit?

An answer from a NC LEO is ideal but any suggestions are of course welcome.

In addition, this State law has been interpreted to require that a pistol permit be obtained by the receiver of a handgun when such person inherits a pistol as a result of the death of another person. The permit should be given to and retained by the seller or donor of the handgun. In such a case, the permit should be given to the executor or receiver of the estate of the deceased person. If the purchaser or receiver uses a North Carolina- issued concealed carry permit for the transfer, the seller should reference such permit on a bill of sale.

Excellent! I've read that .pdf many times but must have missed that line.

Thanks!

in the case of an inheritance, the executor of the estate will retain it... in the case of a private FTF transfer the permit is required to be presented, but there are no specifications as to if it must be retained by the seller or any documentation as to how it would be required to be stored if it were retained...
