Right after the then new Top Shots series started, I began to hear that one of the shooters in Season 1 was a local guy. Lives in my town, worked full time at the state's Bureau of Criminal Investigation as a range instructor, and also held a part time police officer position in a small town. I did not know the small town was the one I used to live near and went to school in. Recently, the local newspaper ran an article from the town's police department, with mention of the officer's shooting awards. It came as a suprise that Chris Cerrino, who was season 1 runner up, scored second from the bottom on the department's shooting qualification. Cerrino also had an unfortunate AD at the BCI range, and shot himself in the leg, I believe in Dec 2009. What this all says to me is that just about ANY of us could end up on Top Shot, and any REALLY GOOD shooters could esily be the Top Shot. I used to shoot with the chief of the department below, and he is very good. I like to think I'm at least that good, as I used to beat him, but haven't shot with him in years. Maybe more old farts ought to put in for "Top Shot". Anyone else have personal experience with less than stellar shots being in or on the show?

Remember, it's a TV show, on top of having experience with guns, they want an angle from you. Something they can use to create more interest and entertainment. If it was just about shooting, they'd just have a shooting competition. There wouldn't be the "Survivor" element to it and the shared housing where personalities have an opportunity to clash.

That said it is an entertaining show, but it's obvious why they pick who they pick. There's the arrogant guy, the amateur guy, the eye candy female or two, the pro shooters etc etc.

In the same season there was that "Cowboy" who I believe his name was Denny. He said on the show that prior to Top Shot, he hadn't shot in a few years.

Yes but Blake from season one is now on Hornady's shooting team.

The dude probably can shoot.

Also don't forget that every season the challenges have become more and more physical, so you don't need to just be the best shot. You need to be the best shot AFTER going through an obstacle course from some counter-terrorist training facility. I wouldn't be surprised if by season five or six, the contestants will have to wear bicycle helmets and pads and go through one of the "Wipeout" obstacle courses before shooting at a moving target made of exploding meat:p

I had the opportunity to go through a police sniper course at the Ohio OPOTA fascility under the direction of Carlos Hathcock back in 1991. Whereas some snipers can shoot between heatbeats, Gunny Hathcock taught us to shoot between GASPS after a 1/2 mile run with gear & rifle. :D
