So I got back from work about a half hour ago, and I need to deprogram a little before sack time.

I carry a pistol for my job, so when I got home I moved my Glock 17 from my belt holster to my Bianchi M12 that is attached to the side of my bed.

I owned a Glock 22 for a few years, so I was used to it feeling a certain way. I just re-Glocked myself last week after a few months without one, deciding this time to try the full-size 9mm instead of the .40 I was used to.

Every time I've handled my Glock 17 since I bought it, I thought it felt lighter than I was used to. So here's my 3am side-by-side comparison!

Glock 17:
Weight, unloaded, no magazine: 22.04 oz.
Weight, with empty mag: 24.81 oz.
Weight with loaded magazine: 31.91 oz.

A quick trip to the calculator reveals this magazine must have been loaded with 17 rounds of 9mm 124-grain.

Glock 22:
Weight, unloaded: 22.92 oz
Weight, with empty mag: 25.67 oz.
Weight with loaded mag: 34.36 oz.

Again, this must have been a magazine loaded with 15 rounds of .40 180-grain.

So while I may not be imagining things, somehow I doubt that I can really sense a difference of 2.45 ounces!

Now try to imagine having a 3# 1911 hung on your belt all day! Kind of makes you want to go, "Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm."

It's really amazing the minute differcnes a human unaided by machienes and rulers can judge.

Build your own custom grip sometime, you can feel 1/32" of an inch difference here or there.

Oh yeah. Several years back I read an article on the ability of the human eye to measure things - it was very surprising the accuracy your eye can demonstrate through comparisons. I'm sure the difference in weight is noticable. Just ran the numbers - that's a 14% weight difference.

Of course the G22 is heavier than the G17. G22=40. G17=9. 40-9=31. Thus the G22 is 31oz heavier than the G17!
