installing a new front sight on a 1911

I have a nickle 1911 combat commander that I would like to install a more visible front sight. Have read that silver soldering is a good idea for larger front sights. How will this effect the nickle finish on my beautiful Colt??

First off Welcome to THR!

If your Colt has a dovetail cuts in the slide for the sights, the sights are just pushed in and held by an interference fit. No silver soldering needed

If you have a stake on frt sight, it is a good idea to have it dovetailed.
