I was in my first USPSA match on saturday. I have only fired my FNX9 on the range prior to this and installing a new mag have generally had the slide open. I have never tried loading with the slide closed and one in the chamber. I was surprised at how much force it takes to install a full mag and make it secure as opposed to having the slide open. As a result I had 3 mags at different times fall out after I had thought they were secure so my times sucked. My question is has anyone else had this problem? Can one damage the pistol by slamming the mag in hard? What causes the diffference in force?
As an aside I was in the production class and found out after the match that production class is only allowed to have 10 in the magazine so I was in violation at the start with 17. I was wondering why they were changing mags so often... Duh! I wasn't nearly as fast as my competitors with double shots to each target but I was in the A section most of the time while they would be AC or AD. Lots of fun though. My palms were sweaty at the start.... alot different than the range.
