Installing magazine cap detent and Spring?

I have a 870 wingmaster 12 ga that I bought in the 70's that has a missing magazine cap detent and spring. I got the parts from remington and I have a question. Do I need a special staking tool or can I use a hammer and punch to stake the detent I place, or is there a better way. Thanks rugerman

a hamer and punch will work.it is possible to over stake and jam the whole mess up so little hits, one at 12:00 and 6:00,this will help center the ball.

Another little trick is to get a punch slightly larger than the hole and with a small grinding ball in a dremel you can concave the surface of the punch.

This will help hold the ball in place and also applies somewhat equal crimping around the hole. Again - go slow and lightly to as not to bury the ball to deep.
