I'm thinking about ordering trijicon for my S&W 910s. I'm thinking it will be a matter of tapping out the old sights and tapping in the new and adjusting them at the range. Has anyone done this themselves. Are there any tips and tricks anyone can offer. It is $130 for the sights alone and I'd imagine considerably more for trijicon to install them and I am not crazy about losing my slide for a while. I think I would like to try doing it myself.

Any gunsmith worth his salt will tap em in for $25....

If he does it he guarantess the work (sights can break)..if you do it and break one...SOL

To echo, the front sights are often kind of thin, and the metal is not exactly 4140-equivalent. It is easier than you'd imagine to break the blade off the foot, even with a pusher.

Even better smiff may be able to have viles installed in those sights for the same or less money, and you can pick the colors and configuration and not worry about the fit or finish of the new one's. Especially great if your POA is the same as your POI now. No size problems.

If you are paying $130 for a set of Trijis you are getting hosed. Many reputable dealers sell them for a lot less. Also consider Meprolights, usually can find them for about half of what you are looking at paying.
Good Luck

Can you tap these sights in or is it better done with a pusher? I'm looking for some also, but for a couple of XD's

Yes, but...

1. It's possible to damage the sights, especially the front sights, drifting them in with a hammer and punch

2. Making small windage adjustments when you zero them is a b!tch

3. You may mar the finish of the slide or sights, even if you use the correct tool (brass, not steel, punch). Brass streaks can usually be rubbed off, but some finishes will show changes in the surface "texture"

I've seen -and owned - night sights with the vials cracked at the factory. They were replaced on guarantee.
DIY at your own risk and expense.

I have installed a few sets of the Nite Lites and had to make a special holder for my MMC staking tool to do Nite Lite front sights. I called them "Atomic Sights" for a good reason. If you are doing a dovetail front sight you have to be very careful on drifting it in. I found I liked the Meprolite sights the best for duty weapons and had them on my old 1927 Evita that I carried on the last Job. It was very comforting to look down at my holster at 0330 hours and see those two little beady eyes glowing in the dark. The gangbangers hated them. Made me like them even more. I use a sight pusher for the rear sights.

Trijicons

Had a set put on my 26 for 20.00 and I am very happy with the results..

I couldn't trust myself to do a professional job..;)
