I once heard tell of a guy trying to sell theft insurance for swimming pools. We didn't buy any of that either.

In my state, the castle clause is in play and my wife and I have been trained/retrained by our sheriff's department. That's all the "insurance" we plan on getting.

I know the castle doctrine protects a person from criminal charges (although maybe not if one continues shooting after BG is down?), but what about civil liability, i.e. BG or BG's family sues you? Even if you win you would still have legal fees to pay...

Catching up on some more of Bill Frady's Lock N Load podcasts, and for those interested in "insurance", you might want to download and listen to episode 770, skipping ahead to the 56:10 second mark, where Sean Maloney of Second Call Defense interview starts.

I put insurance in quotes, as he covers the finer points between insurance (by law they can't forward you any money) and a system as Second Call Defense, where they get around some of the legal limitations of insurance.

FWIW, I think Second Call Defense may now be one of his sponsors.

The more I hear from these folks, the better they sound!?

Sean Maloney did pay homage to The Armed Citizens' Legal Defense Network (my baseline), but says Second Call is a much bigger outfit and has access to more money / more coverage. He also goes into how they cover your civil case after any criminal case is settled / closed.

EDIT: I've been going thru Second Call Defense's site (signed up for their newsletter to get the free download) and it looks like they are a combination of The Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network and NRA backed insurance from Lockton Affinity - basically rolling two different types of coverage into one plan.
