probably a newer AN 94 thats easier to break down, and can put 2 round bursts in the same hole. That was the goal when they started working on the next rifle for their military.

Be interesting to see what comes out as a replacement. The AK is beautifully simple from a manufacturing standpoint and for the end user. I think the cap gun I had as a kid were more complicated. Wonder if the replacement will be as reliable.

Would this result in higher price of lower price in the US? Russia is either going to clear out their ak's, creating a surplus in the US, or they will sit on them with no more in production creating a shortage...

I suspect any "replacement" will still be pretty much an AK.

My prediction is simple - Nothing will happened. There is no real reason to develop a new assault rifle. There were several really new products like AN 94 or AEK already created. Russian generals and politicians are not interested.

I think that they're going with the AK 200 prototype which is just an updated/modernized version. Larger magazine capacity, polymer hardware, flat top etc. I remember an article on it from this website if anyone is interested
