Found this bit in a column by David Broder of the NY Times. The topic was what GWB should have said in his interview with Russert on Sunday, not guns, but the wording made me do a double take:

Some liberals have trouble grasping evil, and always think that if we could take care of the handguns or the cruise missiles or the weapons of mass destruction, our problems would be ameliorated. But I know the problem lies in the souls of our enemies.

I know the position of the NYT, and Broder is usually on the leftish side of the center, but the way he worded that bit seems to imply that he does believe that "Guns don't kill people; people kill people."
