As of late, I have been browsing the various gun sites looking for a few items, namely a winchester pre-64 model 70 in 300 win mag and a remington 1100 with a 24 or 26" barrel and remchokes (also if it was 3" chambered would have been a huge plus).

after losing many auctions and missing out on many online deals, the stars must have been in alignment for me tonight.

Recently I located a nice model 70 on gunbroker and it even came with a minty redfield 3-9x40 scope starting bid was $350. I placed a bid on it and totally foregot about it, since most model 70's were going well over 500 recently. I also found a used, but well taken care of 1100 with a hastings 24" barrel (takes rem chokes) and was a magnum receiver that took 3" shells and the gun even came with a side mount scope mount that has a detachable top portion so i can leave the base on the side, but remove the scope/red dot when not needed. starting bid was $300. I bid a little more competitively on this one since I really wanted it, but again my budget was limited and was not expecting to win it.

long story short,

I just logged on to gun broker and looks like i was the only bidder on both guns and won them at their starting bids :D. now I need to explain to the wife why i need to borrow a few hundred from the savings to cover the unexpected win of both guns ( had enough for 1 and then a little extra). Guess I will put up with the yelling and looks like i will need to raid the "surplus" area of my gun bench to see what I got sitting around that I can part with to put cash back into the savings asap to quiet down the wife.

Just a derivative of a couple of Murphy's Laws: when you don't have the money, you will find your "dream gun". And of course, when you do have the money, you won't find a thing out there. Good luck with the missus, and enjoy your new found treasures.

I had a similar experience at a gun show a couple of weeks ago. I had been looking for a particular pistol that has been a very hot seller in the local market. I saw a gun dealer there from whom I have bought several guns. He runs a small shop out of his house and will often order items for me, letting me pay him when he gets them provided I will drive the 80 miles to his house to pick them up. Anyway, after the chit-chat, I ask if he could order the pistol for me, thinking I could pay for it in a month or so, after the birthday-money from adoring relatives rolls in (counting chickens, I know). Much to my shock and awe, he pulls one out from under the table and says, "You can have this one!" His price on the pistol was a full $70 less than what the dealers in town were getting. What a deal. Only thing was, I only had $25 in my pocket. So, a little chagrined, I asked him to hold the pistol so I could go out and get the funding...Oh, honey, do you think I could borrow some money until my birthday?

well, i just raided the garage sale money (we sold a heck of a lot of stuff a few weeks ago), so hopefully I can replenish it before the wife notices.

I now have some encore barrels in the for sale section and will be adding some ammo, dies, and other stuff soon.

Be careful what you wish for!

Own up to it and offer that these buys will cover the next year's birthday, anniversary and Christmas gifts for you.... Since she loves you dearly, the wife will agree.

Mother's day is coming up...I'm just sayin

You buy her a Winchester M70 and a Remington 1100 for Mother's day, she is going to buy you a bedroom suite for Father's Day.

Pre-64 Model 70 in .300 Win Mag? How many of those did they make? I think they are pretty rare since the cartridge came out in 1963 I think.

Just my .02,

normally my gun buys are not her business because I use my VA disability money to pay for my addiction (guns and shooting). When cash comes out of the joint savings that is when the wife gets invovled.

luckily I was able to offload a lot of stuff I had sitting around and I didn't need to touch the savings, so the wife stayed out of the deal. I am however looking real hard at a les bauer thunder ranch 1911 (i already have one and i could always use a second one, especially at half the cost of new!!!) locally that I would need to take a "loan" out of the savings to cover the cost of the gun until my disaility check comes in at the end of the month .
