This is an interesting article on the newest topic of super gun owners. I'm guessing a majority of the people who regularly post here are super gun owners. However, the stats still seem to be way off and I don't think that the MSM or .gov really knows how many guns are out there. Threads posted here suggest we have in excess of 500 millions guns in our possession because the 300 million figure has been around for a few decades now but "they" still talk about less than 300 mil out there. They don't have a clue.

That's why they want UBCs and registration. Then they will have a clue.

I have 42. This count counts contender and encore frames only, not the many barrels and counts only at-15 lowers. I need to buy a couple of lowers so I can stop rotating uppers.

Yes, going forward but the ones already in our hands won't be accounted for unless they "force" full registration (which I don't foresee) and IF they manage to pull off total registration I seriously doubt there will be anywhere near full compliance (see CT, NY, etc). No one will ever know how many guns are out there now and I would not be surprised to see close to 1 billion in our possession today. Too many closet gun owners to ever really get an accurate count.

    I sure don't feel Super though! :D

These articles are reflective of the flanking attack of the gun control Orgs. They argue that no one needs more than one firearm for hunting. The BATFE requires an FFL to report multiple handgun buyers?
I have learned right or wrong, to question any gun report done by any Liberal Eastern University.:uhoh:

I clicked on No, but I suppose if I counted all of my wife's (she's a guns and shooting enthusiast too) guns along with mine, we'd be well into the "Super Gun Owner" category. Besides that, combined, my wife and I have owned guns for over a hundred years. Shouldn't "longevity" for owning guns count for something?

I consider myself a "Good" gun owner. I obey the rules, occasionally volunteer in a local shooting club, help out fellow members at the range, and offer to take some people shooting if they seem interested. As far as the number of firearms I own I don't feel like counting. The term "Super" gun owners will become the new boogey man that the antis will rail against.

My knee-jerk reaction to articles like these is that the author is trying to make gun owners look like radical rednecks. Perhaps that is their intent but then if the stats of 2% of gun owners own 50% of the guns is accurate then it could prove the opposite. The article states how the owners who have many guns seem to be more affluent than the average American and, to me, that is not the demographic of a toothless redneck or drug crazed gang banger. It seems that the more guns you own, the further you are from the poverty line. That goes counter to the impression that gun owners are ignorant cretins who are irresponsible and near poverty.

I don't know if 2% of the gun owners own 50% of the guns out there but I can't say that number is way off base, either. To those of us who love our guns and can afford to "accumulate" them, it's not hard to have well over 20 guns, with more on the horizon.

Mokin excellent point. They love the scary titles for NRA Members and gun owners. Saturday Nite Specials, Assault Rifles, Cop Killer bullets etc.
How many guns do you own? My answer is? It is none of your Damn business. :p

I totally agree Dog Soldier. But I don't think it's just the "Eastern" Universities that are liberal. There are three anti-rights Universities here in my home state - Idaho. All three of the University presidents and other campus elites cried great big crocodile tears for months after the Idaho Legislature made on-campus concealed carry legal a few years back. In fact, the left-leaning columnists in the local newspaper (which is published in a University town) still whine about it once in a while.

Hy Neighbor. I have spent a good deal of time in your Beautiful and Conservative state. I am familiar with the California refugees invading Idaho and poisoning the well.
The good news is the folks of Idaho still protect their 2nd Amendment Rights. When in Idaho respect their guns and potatoes.:D Thanks for your timely up date.:)
PS, An old friend owned the "Reloader's Corner" In Burley. He passed some years back.

    Reading is fundamental.

In the article, a "super owner" is someone who owns 8 or more. The AVERAGE SUPER OWNER owns 17.

Also, the numbers of firearms in the article is on the EXTREME low end of estimated firearms ownership in the US. Actual numbers are somewhere between 400-700 million. The article says 265 million guns. 30 years ago the talk was 300 million. Like any liberal progressive article on firearms ownership it's extremely slanted and biased.

By understating the number of firearms and firearms owners they attempt to marginalize gun ownership.

Howdy Dog Soldier. We're just outside of McCammon in Eastern Idaho. But yeah, I'm sorry to say you're right about the California refugees invading Idaho, particularly the Boise Valley, where I grew up. I dread the day when there's enough of them to outvote the rest of the state like what happens in several other Western states.

We used to drive over to Burley and visit a gun shop while we were there every once in a while. I can't remember the name of it. It might have been "Reloader's Corner," I'm not sure. I still have quite a few relatives in and around Burley because one granddad and one grandma, my dad and mom, various aunt's and uncles, a lot of cousins, and I were all born there.

Whereabouts in Wyoming are you? My wife and I have been thinking of putting in on antelope over in Wyoming because we haven't had any luck in drawing a tag here in Idaho for a long time now. We love antelope stew.

"the number of Americans who own guns decreased from 25% to 22% -- and has in fact been declining over the past 20 years"

I prefer to believe that fewer Americans are willing to tell anonymous pollsters that they own guns!
If 17 is an AVERAGE SUPER OWNER, what do you call someone with 60+???

Ha! If I had 60+ guns I don't think I'd want to know what the anti-rights media would call me. I've heard so-called "news reporters" call someone with 3 guns and a hundred or so rounds of ammo "a gunman with an arsenal in his house."

Yep, I used to fuel up in McCammon on my way to "Pokeie". I would be glad to suggest a good "Prairie Goat" area to you. I am 30 miles East of the Idaho Border. On the Bear River.

That the 2% intend to be warlords instead of refugees :)

Are these the same pollsters that said Trump had "no chance"?

I think what has changed is that the percentage of people who will admit to owning firearms when asked by an unknown poll taker over the phone has declined from 25% to 22%. Either the people I know in my community are an anomaly, or the percentage of people in the country who own guns has significantly increased.

As stated, absolutely nobody has a really accurate number for the number of firearm owners in the US, or the number of firearms they own. Anybody who tries to tell you differently is blowing smoke.....

I might be, if I hadn't lost most of them in a tragic boating accident. Or if I wasn't a pathological liar on the internet. ("Let me tell you about my GAU-8 collection!")

If I nibble a Pop-Tart in the shape of a gun, does that count?

According to you, the typical gun-owning household is now a super owner (see actual quote below). That's not accurate. Reading is fundamental. So is interpretation. However, the linked sites in the article also offer their own interpretation. I'll stand by my comment of the average super owner owning 17 or more as my interpretation. YMMV
