I hit the range today. Shot the Canik a bit, 300 rounds, then switched to a couple of my 1911 pistols. One is a S&W 108299, older model with adjustable sights. The other is my TRP with the half rail.

I noticed that the TRP has a real hatred for Wilson 10 round mags. It refuses to feed SWC ammo from them. However my other 10 round mags work just fine. The S&W works with every mag I threw at it.

I was shooting up some 155 gr SWC loads and the TRP would not lock back on the last round. The S&W didn't have a problem. You could feel the TRP running sluggishly compared to the S&W. Both are factory stock. The TRP has about double the round count.

However, the TRP is more tightly fitted.

Every pistol is unique. Don't assume anything. Even if a load works just fine in one pistol that doesn't mean it will work just fine in the next.

I absolutely agree.

However, in the "unsolicited observation" category...

- A 155gr .45 ACP round is quite the odd-ball, and way down the grain scale range for .45 ACP bullets.

- I know lots of folks, LE included, like 10 round, single stack, .45 ACP, 1911 mags, but I generally consider these "novelty" items. For what it's worth the TRP ships with 7 rounders.

- From Wilson Combat's FAQ page (bold by me) https://www.wilsoncombat.com/faqs/

"Even though we use the strongest magazine springs in the industry, some pistols have such excessive tolerances in the magazine well–slidestop internal lobe area that some magazines will not reliably lock back on empty even when new. This is a known problem with some Springfield Armory pistols."

Edit to add: I'm assuming you're talking about 1911's in .45 ACP and not 10mm.

Unless it's a Glock... :neener:

Imagine my surprise when the tighter throat of my 19X hated the 147 grain flat nose reloads I was mass producing.

Well, not terribly surprised since my 26 hated em too, though my 17 doesnt mind.

Every gun is different.

OP, when was the last time you changed the recoil spring in the TRP? Might be part of it if it has double the rounds

The recoil spring is good. It works with everything but that Wilson 10 round. Works just fine with all my 7 & 8 round Wilson mags.

I am talking about the ACP. I've got a thing about oddball bullets and the 155 SWC for the .45 ACP is an oddball. They do shoot like a laser though.

The Gen 5 Glocks have a shallower throat that is playing havoc with heavier bullets with certain profiles. No idea why Glock did it. I suspect it will be another dumb flaw that will be quietly fixed in subsequent production. Glock is infamous for never admitting they did something dumb, but then fixes it quietly.

Yep. Its allegedly for tighter lockup and better accuracy or whatever. I dont mind too much as they run carry ammo 100% and once I burned through my flat nose, I swapped to the (so far excellent!) RMR 147 FMJ round nose and those feed just fine in anything. I just used the occasional chokes as good malfunction clearing practice, I'm sure I could have eliminated the issue by just reducing the OAL a bit, but malf practice is good practice, so I left it.

19X is still my favorite Glock, but it always pays to know the weaknesses of any specific firearm.

I like a more "looser" 1911 . Kinda like the old WWII ones where they shake and rattle a bit. The more looser ones tend to feed just fine and still hit what I want out to 25 yards. What I do when I reload my 45 cartridges is that I find a box of target rounds that my guns likes , then I duplicate it's measurements. Then they all run just fine. For the powder I just load from minimum to mid range. I never go "hot" on anything. Luckily mine likes Winchester White Box , so I just duplicate them and it runs smooth.

The whole "perfection" advertising kinda paints them into a corner. Perfection isn't making dumb engineering decisions on your 5th time around...
