Wraco, that's an incredible looking 27. I actually need a six incher. I'm assuming the red ramp was an afterthought by the original owner, since the 27 didn't come with it?
 
harmonic: I think you're correct on the red ramp site. I've understood that if you can see the pin that holds it on, that's a sign it's been changed. The picture below clearly shows a pin. The M28 no dash is the one at the top. Its a very early M28 no dash and it has a ramp site, but not a red ramp. And there's no pin visible. The red ramp is sure nice for shooting when you bring the gun up to target it's right there for ya. The M28 is not as quick to point.

No, I don't believe that's true. I have a 27-2 that you can see the pin plainly on, but it's got the original Baughman front sight and it's clear the finish and blue are continuous between the ramp and the pin - never been out. Really, it would be very hard to make it "disappear."

I do agree the ramp looks later - it's not as deep or trapezoidal as typical factory ones. Adding ramps were pretty common gunsmith jobs for a long time.

Dang, those are really nice no dashes.
