intriguing new mossberg lever action SS2008 LV

Any one know what the retail is gonna be on these? either 'suggested' or real world ?

My question, too.

Henry's new .30-30 is something like $650 in basic blue, which is as laughable as its weight of nearly 9 lbs. when the proven, well-built 336 is $450 and 7 lb., with nicer wood.

If Mossberg can offer this thing for 300 bucks, it will be a runaway hit. For 500 or more, it's an also-ran for those who just MUST have a straight grip.

I'd like to see Mossberg succeed with this, though I'm a happy Marlin owner. When Remington destroys Marlin, we'll need a source of decent levers.

You know there is just something about those big-bore lever actions. I was planning on purchasing a semi-auto rifle this year (my first). Possibly an AR or a Benelli R1. But I may have to see what this new Mossberg can do.

Mossberg's site lists the MSRP of over $400. I'll pass and get a Marlin. They are also offering a 22 LR version. No MSRP listed for it yet.

But MSRP and real price are two different things. For me, it'll all depend on the quality of the rifle when held in my hands.

That's a given, Ash, but that is the only price we have to go by right now. I would guess that retail will be around $350 for the 30-30 version.

Yeah, the tang safety turned me off too. Don't see much use for it. Interestin concept though. Wonder if the 22 LR version will give Henry any competition.

Dont care much for the big gap between the mag tube and barrel. Its going to be hard to get into a Market where Marlin builds a good proven gun for 330 just about anywhere. I like mossy shotguns but I will pass on their other items.

The tang safety is fine for me. There is no chance a company like Mossberg would put out any firearm without a safety. There's just too much liability involved. A single ND from a rifle without a safety is an ambulance chaser's dream. Being a tang safety, though, does make it easier to work than the cross-bolt safeties of the Marlin and the Winchester. Redundant? Yeah, but a reality of the times.

i like the idea of a tang safety

thast what i have on my spartan sxs and i like it alot more than the hammer block on my 336 i think i would be able to see the tang alot easier

heck it seams like ever 3-4 times i take my 336 out i drop the hammer with the safety on its just a pain

[That tang safety would make it hard to mount a tang sight]

Marble's already makes tang peep sights for several tang-safety rifles - I'm sure if one of them doesn't already fit the Mossberg, Marble'll whip up a new base pattern.

I have a Marlin in .30/30, so I'm already set.

However, if Mossberg makes this as much as a good value deal as their ATR-100 and 4x4 series of turnbolt rifles, it will be a winner.

I have a .30-06 ATR-100....like it a lot. Out the door w/3-9x50 scope under $325
