My troop (USAF) has been asking me to take him out and let him do a little shooting with me. He has never fired a pistol before and may be interested in getting one. He is originally from Romania, immigrated to the US and lived in NY, then entered active duty Air Force.

I took the G19 and my RIA out to let him try out. We kept the distance at 7 yards. Started off with the G19 and he did alright, but then he tried the 1911 and was surprised at the group difference. He shot the 1911 much better then the G19 with most rounds in a nice 3 inch circle with a few flyers when he tried to shoot faster...not bad for a first timer. Had to keep on him about a good grip and stance to soak up some of the recoil, but I was surprised he did so well.

Overall I think he had a good time. As we were policing up the brass I thought; crap no pictures. So we will have to head out again soon to get some pics for his family back home. I also think he may be a future 1911 owner.

He should be able to buy with a green card and Mil id correct? Not sure if he is working on getting his citizenship.

Yes, he should be able to buy with a green card. I have a friend (female) who purchased using a permanent residence card.

In CT "permanent legal resident" I believe is the wording they use, and if you are, you can buy firearms.
