Just would like to keep track of the people from Iowa that have submitted the new "Shall Issue" 5 year CCW paperwork to their local sheriff and the time it takes for that Sheriff to actually get the permit issued.

Iowa has 99 counties and before the Shall Issue law change had about as many laws regarding how and under what circumstances the Sheriff would actually issue a permit.

Please post your county and the date you submitted your application. And when you actually get the CCW permit in the mail post here. I think it will be interesting to see exactly what Sheriff's are dragging their feet on this. If this gets enough replies to track I can update this first post with the information in the entire thread to save time reading the whole thread.

I've got a professional license, but good idea to see who's dragging their feet. I've got an up-hill battle trying to convince city hall that banning weapons on city property has more potential for harm than allowing permit holders to carry on city owned property.

I've actually got an email in to the Iowa Attorney General. Iowa code 724.28 says that "political subdivisions" can't make ordinances against "lawful transportation" (among other things). Under the new law it sounds like to me that carrying a weapon on your hip would be lawful transportation as long as they have a permit to do so. I may have them on this point, but whether or not they'll interpret that the same way we shall see.

(Sorry OP, if this was hijacking the thread, I was just excited to see some other Iowan's post on this topic and thought I'd share. Good luck)

I havn't gone in yet. I'm in Warren county and usually I go in there and walk out with my new permit in a matter of minutes. I talked to the ladies in the Sheriff's office a few months ago and it sounded to me like it should be the same type of thing for current permit holders this year. Mine doesn't expire until next month so I won't know for sure until then.
