Iowa is close to passing an Omnibus Pro-Gun bill. Link to Iowa Firearms Coalition's description of the bill.
Today it passed in Iowa's House (which is Republican controlled), and it now needs help getting passed in the Senate (which is not).
If you live in Iowa, please take 2 minutes to use IFC's Legislative Action Center to send a message to your Iowa Senator regarding passing the bill in it's original form. If you haven't used IFC's Legislative Action Center before, they do ask for your name and address. In part because they use your address to determine who your legislators are (in this case it only goes to your Senator). Just a heads up.
A recap of the things in the bill are as follows: (copied from IFC's link above)
1) Allow Iowans to own and use Suppressors (still subject to Federal requirements)
2) Update Iowa’s concealed carry law to move the retraining requirement to every 10 years instead of every 5.
3) Simplify the concealed carry permit renewal process and allow a 60 day window to renew.
4) Exempt military veterans from having to get training before applying for a Permit to Carry
5) Remove the “permit to acquire” mandate for handgun purchases (FBI NICS program would still be used for purchases).
6) Clarifies that online training is acceptable for a concealed carry permit.
7) Remove the age restriction on minors shooting while supervised by a parent or guardian.
8) Make it illegal to share any identifying information about any of Iowa’s concealed carry permit holders.
9) Make all permits across Iowa uniform in appearance.
Edited to add this link to NRAILA's post regarding this bill.
